Clementine Quilt Along: Save the Dates!

We are in the heart of December, which means holiday shopping, eating, and of course, lots of quilting! December also means that our annual charity quilt along is right around the corner! This year, our charity quilt along is the Clementine Quilt Along benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. If you are planning on using the Clementine Quilt Kit using Mama’s Cottage to make a quilt like the one in the picture below, you can pre-order yours now to make sure you are all set for January! The kit will have all the fabric you need to make all the blocks and finishing, plus a little bonus quilt label, and we also have a backing set.

The quilt along will begin on January 25, 2018 and will go for seven months, ending on July 25, 2018. The pattern will be released one block at a time on the 25th of each month on the Clementine Quilt Along Landing Page. We suggest that a $5 donation be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for every pattern download using our donation link (which is now live!).

Together, Fat Quarter Shop and Moda Fabrics will match up to $20,000 of your donations in 2018 to our St. Jude fundraiser!

Mark your calendars for January 15, 2018 to get the fabric requirements for this quilt on the Clementine Quilt Along Landing Page and be sure to join the 2018 Clementine Quilt Along Facebook Group to join in on the fun!

Announcing the Clementine Quilt Along!

Hey everyone!  We are just past the halfway point with our Patchwork Quilt Along, but 2018 will be here in the blink of an eye, and we will be ready to start our next quilt along!  We have it all ready to show you, and we hope you love it just as much as we do.  We are calling it the 2018 Clementine Quilt Along, benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, whom we love supporting.  Their mission is to save children by making their research and findings available to everyone AND by treating children at no cost to the families, so they can focus on the one thing that matters – helping their children get better.

St. Jude Children's Research Hospital logoWe are also partnering with Moda Fabrics once again, who has generously worked with us since we started doing these quilt alongs to benefit our community.

Together, Fat Quarter Shop and Moda Fabrics will match up to $20,000 of your donations in 2018 to our St. Jude fundraiser.

The donation page will be ready soon, and we will update this post once it’s ready.

Now… onto the super fun part… here is the beautiful quilt for the 2018 Clementine Quilt Along!

If you have not worked with blocks on point before, don’t worry!  The beauty of this quilt is that you repeat the same blocks in different sizes, and the way we have you finish the blocks is easy breezy.  You will love our method!clementine quilt along

Weekend Quilting Book Showcase by Jemima Flendt

Weekend Quilting by Jemima Flendt book showcase

Happy Monday!  Today we are thrilled to be a part of Jemima Flendt’s showcase of her very first book, Weekend Quilting!

Weekend Quilting by Jemima Flendt
Weekend Quilting by Jemima Flendt

This is the book you need to entice your non-quilting buddies to the dark side, er, to start sewing.  Jemima of Tied with a Ribbon has packed this gem of a book with 16 small projects that won’t take much time or fabric, but can get those creative juices flowing all the same.  It’s a way to “Quilt and Unwind”, and we think that’s a perfect subtitle!  In 10 chapters, she covers all sorts of techniques, from basic quiltmaking and simple piecing all the way to applique and foundation paper piecing!  For all the technique chapters, Jemima has provided 2 projects for practice.

Everyone in the Weekend Quilting Showcase has tackled one of these 16 projects, and our It’s Sew Emma writer Nova took on the Avenues Mini Quilt from the Foundation Paper Piecing chapter.  She modified it to make a tablerunner, and we love how wintry it becomes in sophisticated blues.  Her mini came out beautifully due to Jemima’s excellent instructions and guidance.  We applaud those perfect points!

We are one of the last stops in the Weekend Quilting showcase, which means there are so many yummy posts to peruse!  All these projects are so enticing – have a blast clicking through, and it will surely brighten up your Monday!

Sweetie Pie Sew Along with Lori Holt

First, Lori Holt of Bee In My Bonnet stole our hearts with the Sew Cherry collection! Now, we’re lusting over the Sew Cherry 2 fabrics! We just can’t get enough of those stunning hues and darling prints!
Since we love all-things Sew Cherry, we decided to join in on the quilty fun of Lori Holt’s Quilt Along featuring the Sweetie Pie Quilt Kit! The kit includes the Sweetie Pie Quilt Pattern and 23.25 yards of Sew Cherry 2 fabric for the quilt top and binding.
Each month, Lori will be sharing tips and tricks every Monday for 8 weeks, starting today, for all of us to follow along with the Sweetie Pie quilt! We used the awesome Pie Ruler to make the first block!
If you’re looking for some tips with this ruler, check out our demonstration video!
We can’t wait to see what Lori brings us for the next block! Share your block progress with us on social media and be sure to keep track of your project with your Scrappy Project Planner and accessories!

Introducing our 2017 Quilt Along to Benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation: Patchwork!
Here at Fat Quarter Shop we love using our “quilty powers” for good, which is why we organize Charity Quilt Alongs like Crossroads and Snapshots.  We’ll be sharing the last of our Crossroads patterns later this month on the 15th, and are SUPER EXCITED to share our Quilt Along for 2017. This upcoming event has all the makings of a great Quilt Along!
* Fabulous pattern? Check!
* Gorgeous fabric collection? Check!
* Monthly video tutorials to help you assemble your very own Patchwork quilt? Check!
* The opportunity to help others by quilting and doing something fun each month? CHECK!
We’ll also have some of our favorite quilty bloggers sewing along with us, showing you their progress along the way. We love seeing the quilts made with both the kit fabric and with the other fabrics quilters sometimes choose, don’t you?! The Patchwork Quilt Along is going to be great fun!
So, without further ado, we present you with our 2017 Patchwork Quilt Along!
Our Patchwork Quilt Along benefits Make-A-Wish. This fantastic organization grants the wishes of children diagnosed with a life-threatening medical condition. Make-A-Wish believes a wish experience can be a game-changer. Granted wishes help children feel stronger, more energetic, and more willing to face their medical battle, and for many the wish marks a turning point in the fight against their illnesses!

Our beautiful Patchwork quilt uses the Bonnie & Camille Basic collection, and we have both Patchwork Quilt Along Quilt Kits and Backing Sets available for pre-order.  Sew fun!
We hope you’ll support the Make-A-Wish Foundation by quilting along with us in 2017!  Let’s make a difference in the lives children in need, and their families, by using our superpower: quilting!

Little Ruby Quilt Along – Part 3: Quilt Assembly

Welcome to Part Three of our Little Ruby Quilt Along! This gorgeous Little Ruby quilt, designed by Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms, features the Little Ruby fabric collection by Bonnie & Camille. Last week we shared a video on how to make the Star Blocks, and this week we’re showing you how to assemble the quilt!

Two quilts?! Yes! This quilt pattern is super cool because you’ll actually end up with enough blocks for two different quilts if you add additional background fabric and binding!  FYI: The background fabric used for the second quilt, the quilt on the right in the image below, is Little Ruby Coral Little Sundae.

If you’re ready to start your Little Ruby Quilt we’ve got tools to help you complete a Little Ruby quilt of your own.  Not only will we share three separate video tutorials to show you what to do, step-by-step, we also have some Creative Grids Rulers that are going to make cutting and piecing so much easier. Woo hoo!

6/27/16 – Part Three: Quilt Assembly – that’s today!
7/11/16 – Finished Quilts!

Watch the third part of our video series above, and
learn how to assemble your own beautiful Little Ruby Quilt!
The free pattern for Part 3 can be found HERE

If you want to make the exact quilt shown above, you’ll be happy to know we’re offering a Little Ruby Quilt Along Kit! This quilt was designed by Camille Roskelley exclusively for FQS, and it’s such a beauty!  We also have a coordinating Backing Set!

Two Creative Grids rulers were used to make this quilt: Creative Grids Hexagon Trim Tool and Creative Grids 60 degree Double Strip Ruler, which need to be purchased separately from the quilt kit.

Check Out the Fabulous Bloggers Quilting Along!
