Month One Cutting Guide: Prairie Home Sampler Sew Along

In March, we gathered our supplies for the Prairie Home Sampler Sew Along, and now it’s time to embark on the journey through everything a pioneering quilter could wish to sew! For April, we will be sewing three blocks, the Sunflower Block, the Tumbleweed Block, and the Prairie Springtime Block. Keep reading to get all the quilty details for this month’s blocks and to download the Prairie Home Sampler Month One Cutting Guide FREE PDF.

Cutting Guides and Supplies

The cutting guides for the blocks in the Prairie Home Quilt Book differ a little bit from what you will need for the Prairie Home Sampler Quilt. So, to complement the block instructions in the book, we are giving you a FREE PDF cutting guide each month to help cut down on the quilty math you need to do! 1. Hi Kimberly .
I was interested in Prairie Home sew along quilt sampler and purchased Lori Holt Fat quarter bundles ( one in prints and one back grounds) Costed me Canadian $ 400 .I printed the schedule and eagerly waited for April 15th for the first three blocks release. To my disappointment there are no instructions just a mention of Prairie Home quilt book pages. I don’t have a book neither can afford to buy, its quite pricey. Already spent my money on fabrics.
How can I get the cutting instructions ?
    Please advise.

    1. Unfortunately you can’t get the cutting instructions because they come from the book. Maybe check out your local library to see if they have it, or borrow the book from a friend.

    2. Hello Sushma, both the cutting instructions and the piecing instructions can be found in the Prairie Home Quilt Book. With this quilt along being a companion to the book, the only place to access the instructions is in the book. You can find all the required supplies listed above, and you can always reach out to our customer service team at service@fatquartershop.com with your questions. I also like the ideas that Elizabeth and Andrea have! Teamwork and supporting local libraries are great ideas!

    3. You can get the book on Amazon if you are a prime member the shipping is free or Fatquarter shop has it. After spending all the money on the fabric save up for the book, or ask for it for Mothers day.

  2. Maybe you and a friend could purchase the book and share it and work on the quilt together. Then you would have support and companionship.

    1. I also was under thought there would be videos as well. I bought all the fabric for it and now can’t find anyone doing a tutorial. Very disappointing.

  3. I have the Prairie Home book but can’t seem to find the fabric guide requirements for the tumble block. Can you please tell me where I can find it in the book?

Also I was under the impression that there would be a tutorial on each block for this quilt. So disappointed to see there isn’t one. I thought several where doing a sew along including Becky from Power Towels with Thread and I can’t find anyone doing this quilt. :((

    1. Becky is doing this sew along, she works a month ahead so she has already completed the blocks that were just released. I can’t remember what video she mentions them in though. But it was definitely before Tuesday.

    2. Hello Lisa! You can find the fabric requirements for the Tumbleweed block on page 30, and the block instructions are on page 36. When you’re looking at the fabric requirements on page 30, the only cuts you will need for this block are [D, E, Z, AA, and BB], as noted on the Prairie Home Sampler Month One Cutting Guide. The guide also tells you how many of each to cut! I hope this cleared things up for you. If you have more questions, please reach out to our customer service team at service@fatquartershop.com.

  4. Was really wanting to watch YouTube videos by Kimberly OR Lori Holt on how to follow the instructions in the book and how to complete the blocks.

I’m new to quilting and was hoping for a “real” sew along with help for the newbies in this world.

I bought the book and the 2 stacks of Lori Holt bee bundle colors and backgrounds and have no idea what “C 16” means or Yellow print J4, K4, L4.

I also wanted help in pulling the right fabrics for each block. There’s a lot to pick from and don’t want to mess up. Help please
