In Stitches with Fat Quarter Shop: Woven with Love Pillow

Happy Friday, Quilters!  We have a guest post up today on Bernina’s WeAllSew blog, and it is the fifth pillow of our In Stitches pillow series!  This one is called the Woven with Love Pillow, and we hope you love making it as much as we did.  It is quick, simple and adorned with vibrant ribbon!  In this color palette, it is a bubbly modern accent, but you can easily switch the look with your favorite colors.

Woven with Love pillow

For our Woven with Love pillow, we chose the Amy Butler Splendor Ribbon from Renaissance Ribbons.  For the pillow top and envelope back, we used the pale pink Duchess shade of Grunge Basics from Moda.  To sew down the Splendor ribbon, we selected the 50 wt Dark Turquoise thread from Aurifil.  For piecing the pillow together, we matched the thread color to the Grunge background and used Light Lilac.

The Patchwork Christmas Stocking by Sherri McConnell

Hi everyone!  We are pleased as punch to present this special tutorial video to you today!  It still feels like Summer to us in Texas, but October and November have a way of zooming by, so it is high time for us to prepare for Christmas.  Sherri McConnell of A Quilting Life is just one of our most favorite quilting peeps, and on her last visit to our studio, she showed us how to make the Patchwork Christmas Stocking, a classic red and white pieced Christmas stocking with a folded cuff and hanger.  Anything beyond a simple bag is outside our usual patchwork-y realm, so we loved seeing her create this stocking from start to finish.

Patchwork Christmas Stocking by Sherri McConnell

And, if you are a huge Sherri & Chelsi fan like we are, you will be happy to know that their newest fabric line Creekside has just arrived!  Stay tuned, because we have lots of quilty goodness in Creekside coming at you very soon.  But for today, sit back and enjoy Sherri’s video on how to make this sweet stocking.

It doesn’t take much to get started.  Here’s all you need:

Then, grab the free Patchwork Christmas Stocking template and hit play!

Thanks for joining us today, and thanks to Sherri for filming this wonderful project with us!  Let us know what you think in the comments below.  How many stockings will you make, and what color is your Christmas?

New It’s Sew Emma Impressions Patterns, Part 2

Whew, it’s been a busy few weeks, but we’re back to do the final round up of new patterns by It’s Sew Emma for the Fall!  (Click here to see our post on Part 1 of the new patterns.)  This set of four patterns is part of our Impressions patterns, which use our Orange Peel template set.  If you don’t have the templates, you can still use the templates printed in the patterns.  So with that squared away, here are Herald, Lovey Dovey, Peony and Wisteria!

Herald quilt pattern

Herald is a fun one, alternating background colors in the blocks for a checkerboard effect.  That, and the slight twist of the orange peels, creates a very pleasing optical effect!  In the black and white range of Delilah, the variations are highlighted even more.  Herald comes in three size options.

Lovey Dovey Impressions quilt pattern

The inspiration for Lovey Dovey is written all over this quilt!  Who doesn’t love those classic X’s and O’s?  In red and pink, it almost feels vintage, but adding a colored background and illustrated prints, like these in Dear Diary, keeps it sweet but adds some modern flair.  Lovey Dovey comes in three size options.

Peony Impressions quilt pattern

This Peony isn’t your typical garden variety, but you will want them blooming everywhere!  It is undeniably cute, but using prints from The Elm Park Collection lends an elegant softness to the happy petals.  Peony comes in three sizes.

Wisteria Impressions quilt pattern

With all the gracefulness of Wisteria, using different sizes of the Orange Peel templates gives the effect of climbing ivy!  We love it in the two-color combo of blues, but the delicateness of Dollhouse harmonizes well, and the smoky background gives it some pop.  Wisteria comes in one size.

That is a wrap for the latest It’s Sew Emma patterns!  We hope you enjoyed these tidbits and ideas, and let us know what you think.

2017 Patchwork Quilt Along: Block 9 – Grandmother’s Choice

It’s already time for Block #9 – Grandmother’s Choice in our Patchwork Quilt Along!  Hopefully you are all caught up with the first eight blocks.  If you are just now joining us, welcome!  Our quilt is made in Bonnie & Camille Basics in the Patchwork Quilt Along Quilt Kit.

Most importantly, we are benefiting Make-A-Wish with this year’s quilt along.  We are asking for a small donation each month in exchange for the monthly patterns, and Fat Quarter Shop and Moda Fabrics will each match up to $10,000 of donations raised.  We have reached our goal, well before the end of the year, thanks to our generous community of quilters, so all the matches will be maxed out!  Woohoo!!  Please do continue donating – every dollar makes a difference!

Ready to get to stitching? Download your free block 9 pattern today in exchange for a donation to Make-A-Wish!
Make-A-Wish grants game-changing wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

National Sew A Jelly Roll Day

Project Jelly Roll with Fat Quarter Shop

Hey Quilters!  Guess what?  There is a new national holiday in town, and we are very prepared to celebrate it.  Moda Fabrics has officially made the third Saturday of September National Sew a Jelly Roll Day!  On NSAJRD (don’t try to pronounce that – you might sprain something) they encourage you to embark on Project Jelly Roll.  The goal of Project Jelly Roll is simple – dig into that fabric stash and get to making, starting with those little round 2 1/2″ strip delicacies better known as a Jelly Roll!

Project Jelly Roll

That’s right – Jelly Rolls are not meant to stay wrapped in plastic your whole life!  The value of a Jelly Roll is so much more when you blend it into a cuddly quilt.  And you can reward yourself for all that de-stashing with a new Jelly Roll or two during Fat Quarter Shop’s Jelly Roll Sale going on right now, 20% off of all Jelly Rolls.  After all, you have to maintain that Jelly Roll equilibrium.  Science!  The sale ends Sunday, September 17th at midnight, so hurry before those Jelly Rolls turn to pumpkins!

Jelly Roll Sale at Fat Quarter Shop

Now, what to do with that spiffy, strippy little precut?  Here is a very good list of Jelly Roll projects to peruse, straight from our Fat Quarter Shop YouTube playlists.  We have been Jelly Roll junkies since Day 1, with our very first Shortcut Quilt, Jelly Roll Jam.  (All the feels!)  Over the years, we have only grown more addicted, and our Jelly Roll quilt collection has grown a lot!

Kimberly in Jelly Roll Jam

Our bloggy friends have made brand new samples of each of these to show you, and we are thrilled with their Jelly Roll creations.

Check out their thoughts on each project, and hopefully it inspires you to jump right into Project Jelly Roll!
