Year of the Fat Quarter at Fat Quarter Shop: August

Welcome to our Year of the Fat Quarter Quilt Along! This month, we are featuring the color purple in our August 2018 Year of the Fat Quarter Bundle! We are beyond excited to start month 8 of this year long quilt along!

We are dedicating 2018 to our favorite little precut, the fat quarter! We are doing this to celebrate our 15th anniversary as a company and because a fat quarter has 18″ x 20″ of usable fabric (too perfect!). Every first Friday of the month, we will be featuring one of our wonderful quilters and the project they make with their Year of the Fat Quarter Bundle!

August Project by Melissa of Happy Quilting

For the August Year of the Fat Quarter project, Melissa made her own design Sparkly Stars Quilt using our August 2018 Year of the Fat Quarter Bundle! The full tutorial for this quilt is on her blog, Happy Quilting!

We are sew happy to have 9 wonderful bloggers making projects out of each of the Year of the Fat Quarter Bundles with us! Be sure to check out their blogs to see the details of their projects and keep up with the Year of the Fat Quarter fun on with #fqsyotfq on Instagram!

A Very Vintage Christmas Photoshoot!

FaLaLaLaLa Vintage! We recently got into full Christmas swing when we visited our very close quilty friend, Lori Holt of Bee in my Bonnet, to photo her upcoming with It’s Sew Emma, Vintage Christmas! The Vintage Christmas Quilt Book features the Vintage Christmas Sampler Quilt (below) complete with 42 Christmas themed blocks and 17 quilty projects (11 quilts, 1 tablerunner, 1 mug mat, 1 placemat and 3 pillows). We will even have a Quilt Kit and Backing Set out of Lori’s Cozy Christmas line to make a Vintage Christmas Quilt just like hers!

And YES, of course all the blocks can be mixed and matched with her Farm Girl Vintage and Spelling Bee books!

Lori is the queen of blending all things quilty and vintage and walking into her house was like walking into Santa’s Scrappy Happy Workshop! Beautifully decorated and meticulously organized, Lori transformed her house into a quilty Christmas wonderland, and of course many photos were taken. Here’s a little peek into our photoshoot with Miss Bee, and all of the patterns for all the projects are in her Vintage Christmas Quilt Book!

Set the table for Christmas cheer with these adorable placemats! With built in pockets for utensils, these placemats are doubly super fresh and functional!

And of course stacks on stacks on stacks of quilts! Lori made 18 Vintage Christmas quilts for the photoshoot to show the abundance of options when you mix and match her blocks and settings. We had a blast photographing all of them to put in her book.

With the gorgeous Vintage Christmas quilts, you need matching Vintage Christmas pillows! Take any of the blocks from Lori’s Vintage Christmas quilt and make an easy mini project by turning them into a pillow. Sprinkle on some buttons for an extra dash of cuteness!

The adorable gingerbread men featured on the Christmas Memories Quilt quickly get you into the holiday spirit! This quilt is one of the 17 quilty projects in the Vintage Christmas Quilt Book. The Christmas tree pillow above features buttons from Lori’s Cute Little Buttons #1 and all projects and quilts use thread from her Bee Basics AuriFloss Thread Box.

And be sure to check out the Video Trailer to see some exclusive, behind the scenes of the very Vintage Christmas photoshoot!

We loved visiting the Quilty Cottage again and working/hanging out with Lori! Thanks to Lori for hosting us. Sew much love, time and hard work goes into each one of our It’s Sew Emma books, but the finished masterpieces are always worth it, and we can’t wait for you to see it. Be sure to pre-order your copy of Vintage Christmas Quilt Book so you’ll get it before anyone else in October, just in time to deck the halls with our lovely Lori Holt!

Happy Vintage Christmas!

2018 FQS Summer Book Club – It’s Sew Emma

We are now on our fifth week of our 2018 Summer Book Club! This week’s featured author is none other than It’s Sew Emma! It’s Sew Emma began as a dream for Kimberly Jolly. As the owner of a successful online business, she has seen and used hundreds of quilt patterns over the years. Some are great, and some could be better. She began creating many exclusive designs and block of the month programs for her store which generated wonderful feedback from quilters. This started the momentum for launching her pattern company. In 2011, she gathered a team of creative friends, and It’s Sew Emma became a reality!

The It’s Sew Emma Books we are featuring this week are The Cake Mix Quilt Book and the Fat Quarter Style Book! We were so excited to host the Cake Mix Quilt Along on our blog this past fall and it was 8 weeks of Cake Mix Recipe fun.

Fat Quarter Style includes 12 fat quarter quilts that can be made in four sizes: crib, lap, twin and queen. With a variety of styles and genres, there is something for everyone. This book is perfect for quilters of all skill levels!

In addition, It’s Sew Emma has loads of patterns for quilters of all levels! We even have an It’s Sew Emma Pattern Club that automatically ships you all of the new patterns by It’s Sew Emma as they are released! And, all It’s Sew Emma patterns are available as Paper Patterns and Downloadable PDF Patterns.

We also have a huge giveaway at the end of this year’s Summer Book Club! Click below to enter by filling out a quick form. Fill out all 10 forms from each week of the 2018 Summer Book Club, and you’ll be entered to win!

Happy Reading!

2 Weeks Left of the Winterville Quilt Along/Contest!

26

We can’t believe it but we are on the final two weeks of the Winterville Quilt Along/Contest! We are participating in Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms’ Winterville Quilt Along to celebrate the Bonnie & Camille Christmas in July! We love the little house block in Camille’s Winterville Pattern is super versatile and works well in any project.

Camille made her block into a mini quilt:

And Kimberly made hers into a tablerunner:

The great thing about the Winterville Quilt is that it is very Fat Eighth friendly! Kimberly made her tablerunner with a fat eighth bundle and 3 yards of background (more background coming soon!) and 5/8 yard binding.

Now, we want you to make your own version! We would like you to make the House Block from the Winterville Quilt into a project. You can keep it as a block, a mini quilt, a pillow, or a creation of your own. Click here to see our first Winterville blog post where our awesome sample makers made their version of the Winterville House Block!

We are even running a Winterville Contest, where you have the opportunity to win a really awesome prize! Keep reading to see what you can win by participating and keep up with the contest on Instagram when you search the hashtag #showusyourville.

Winterville Contest

This contest will run from July 6 to August 6 and to enter, all you have to do is get the Winterville Quilt Pattern (available as Paper and PDF), make the House Block from the Winterville Quilt, and upload it to Instagram. Use the hashtag #showusyourville and you’ll be entered to win. Camille will be helping us choose a winner and the winner will get an autographed Winterville Mini Quilt and matching Fat Quarter Shop exclusive Winterville Enamel Pin!

Good luck and happy quilting!

BLOG REMIX – DIY Infinity Scarf

We’re shaking things up on the Jolly Jabber! We are bringing life back to our old projects with Blog Remixes! Every other Thursday from today until November 15, we will be throwing it back to one of our tutorials with new fabrics, notions, tips and tricks to inspire you to make your next project. Whether you’ve seen this project before or it’s your first time, there’s a remix project for everyone. This week’s remix is the DIY Infinity Scarf by Crystal from the Hello Creative Family! If you’re curious, check out our original post here.

Project Requirements

Here’s what you’ll need to make this project:

And that’s it! The tutorial Crystal has up on her blog, Sew Creative Blog, walks you through how to whip up one (or a bunch!) of these with ease.

Quilt Along

We even had some awesome quilty friends make their version of the DIY Infinity Scarf:

Quilty staffer Deborah made her infinity scarf using Wild Bloom (SKU in photo here) by Bari J for Art Gallery Fabrics. Deborah suggests that when sewing with rayon, leave the selvages on and trim them off after you’ve finished sewing. Rayon is slipperly and the slightly stiffer selvage makes it a little easier to work with.

Quilty staffer Deborah made another infinity scarf using Embrace Double Gauze (SKU in photo here) by Shannon Fabrics.

Quilty staffer Elva made her infinity scarf using Fusions Spices (SKU in photo here) by AGF Studios for Art Gallery Fabrics. Elva loved making these scarves as they are super quick to make and are wonderful gifts for friends (and yourself – of course)!

Quilty staffer Nancy made her infinity scarf using Printemps (SKU in photo here) by Fusions by AGF for Art Gallery Fabrics.

Quilty staffer Susan made her infinity scarf using Lavish (SKU in photo here) by Katarina Roccella for Art Gallery Fabrics. Susan loved using Art Gallery fabric for this project  because it had a tighter weave and hardly frays at all.

Quilty staffer Krystal made her infinity scarf using Cotton + Steel Lawn (SKU in photo here) by Cotton + Steel Fabrics.

Quilty staffer Krystal made another infinity scarf using Cotton + Steel Lawn (SKU in photo here) by Cotton + Steel Fabrics. Krystal liked making this project because it’s very quick and the resulting scarf looks awesome!

Amy of Sew Incredibly Crazy (@sewincrediblycrazy) made her infinity scarf using a Rayon Batik that she had in her stash.  Amy loved making this project as the scarves go together quickly and are really beautiful. She says that if you wanted to, you can make this a no sew project with hem tape.

Lisa of In the Boon Docks (@intheboondocks) used Vintage Lawn to make her infinity scarf. She waited a long time to use this fabric and this was the project to use it in! The fabric was super soft and light weight and the scarf was very easy to sew.

Wendy of Sugarlane Designs (@wendybert) made her infinity scarf out of Country Collections. She chose a small red print to go with the denim and black outfits she wears a lot. She says to think about what you’ll pair with your scarf with to ensure you get top value!

This project is easy to make, scrap friendly and perfect for your own home or as a gift! Be sure to share your projects using #diyinfinityscarf and tag us (@fatquartershop) so we can see and share your work!

Button Lovers Club 3: Cheer Buttons

Get ready to lose your buttons with Just Another Button Company’s newest Button Lover’s Club, Words with Buttons! Each monthly box includes a word pack with button letters to spell the word of the month, plus an assortment of handmade clay buttons. In their third year of the Button Lover’s Club, JABC changed things up by giving you 2 Mini Party Packs and 1 pack of handmade, hand dyed buttons in every box that coordinate with a fabric collection.

Our quilty friend Pat Sloan has joined us this year to make her version of the project using the buttons and her Splendid Sampler blocks. Clementine Quilt Along: Finishing Pattern

Welcome to the Clementine Quilt Along! We are continuing this Quilt Along with the final month of this quilt along, the Finishing Pattern! Our quilt is made with Mama’s Cottage by April Rosenthal for Moda Fabrics and we have quilt kits and the matching backing sets available. If you are just joining us, you can find the full fabric requirements and all the patterns and videos posted so far on our Clementine Quilt Along page.

Most importantly, we are benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital with this year’s quilt along. We are asking for a small donation in exchange for downloading each month’s pattern, and together, Fat Quarter Shop and Moda will match up to $20,000 of your donation. We are almost at $12,000, a little shy of our goal! Thank you to everyone who donated and keep the donations coming so we can reach our goal!

When you download the pattern, we as well as St. Jude would greatly appreciate if you donate $5 to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. This means you can get all 7 pattern sets for $35! Here is the difference your donation, small or large, makes:
