Announcing the Moonbeams Charity Quilt Along

Our 2024 quilt for Make-A-Wish is a dream come true! The Moonbeams quilt designed by Fat Quarter Shop explores an enchanting nightscape featuring nocturnal birds and blooms. We invite you to sew along with us from March to September, 2024, and can’t wait to start this quilt along with you next year!

Our Moonbeams Quilt and Cross Stitch Pattern benefit Make-a-Wish Central & South Texas. As we fly closer to our 11th Annual Charity Quilt Along, we continue to be amazed by the generosity of this sewing community and inspired by the stories of the children who have been granted life-changing Wishes.

Fat Quarter Shop is happy to be partnering with Moda Fabrics to match up to $30,000 in donations for this worthy cause.

The fundraiser works by offering the Moonbeams patterns as FREE downloads during the event for a suggested donation of $10 each to our Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas campaign. Or feel free to make a larger, one-time donation of $50. No amount is too small, and every bit counts. From March to September, we will publish a new block pattern here on the blog on the first Friday of each month.

To make a quilt just like this one, pick up the Moonbeams Quilt Kit and Moonbeams Pieced Backing Set, available only at Fat Quarter Shop.

Our exclusive quilt kit includes everything you need for your quilt top including Strawberry Lemonade fabric designed by Sherri & Chelsi for Moda Fabrics, packaged in an exclusive keepsake box with magnetic closure. The Moonbeams quilt is 68.5″ x 80.5″ and is best for intermediate to experienced quilters.

A bonus of purchasing this quilt kit is that you will have all the block and finishing patterns before they are released online. The Moonbeams printed pattern set will only be available early as part of this kit.

Our exclusive Moonbeams Pieced Backing Set includes 6 yards of Strawberry Lemonade fabric and the pieced backing pattern before it’s released online.

If you’re planning on sewing with something different, download the fabric requirements once they’re available to make this year’s charity quilt. We will share the fabric requirements and cross stitch supply list when we reach our first fundraising milestone of $20,000.

Unlock Surprises with Fundraising

We’re getting closer to our goal of $100,000 for Make-a-Wish, and when we reach $50,000 in donations, one lucky donor will receive a 1-hour virtual visit with Kimberly Jolly!

  • To be entered, you will need to donate $25 or more to our Make-a-Wish campaign. If you have already donated $25 or more with your name and email (not anonymous), then you are automatically entered to win!
  • Make sure that your donation is not anonymous so that we can contact you by email.
  • When we reach $50,000, we will randomly select a qualifying donor and notify them by email.

Each milestone goal we hit with our Make-a-Wish fundraiser will unlock special offers and surprises!  When you donate today, you’ll get us closer to our goal of granting ten wishes, and closer to awarding each special surprise.

BONUS 1 – Cross Stitch Supply List and Quilt Fabric Requirements

BONUS 2– To be unlocked when we reach $50,000

  1. Hello, after sewing the charityquilt along of 2019 I also sewed along with Heartfelt. I love both of these quilts! Thank you for designing so nice quilts!

  2. If you buy the kit, is the donation for the quilt blocks included or is it separate. Beautiful quilt.

    1. Hi Alice!

Donations are on their own page. Any of the Make A Wish links above will take you to the page to donate. The kit cost is just for the supplies needed to make the quilt top and the full printed pattern before we release them all monthly on the blog. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    2. I cannot seem to find how much the kit will be, only the amount to put a reserve on the kit.

  3. I may be interested in learning cross stitch as an easy carry along for hand work. Where should I start and how do I learn the stitches? Want to know if this is a new craft I should invest in. I’m an intermediate quilter. I do not subscribe to any of the social media platforms. Thank you.

  4. I just watched the show with Susan, Lissa and Kimberly! My or my….so many new ideas with so little time! I am a beginner quilter, but LOVE looking at all the quilt books for ideas. There seem to be several for us ‘newer’ quilters and would ❤️the book talked about on the program!
I have also started back on cross stitching after being away from it for so many years, so see why I say so much to do with so little time! 😊.
    Have a great day!

    1. Hi Phyllis, I taught myself to cross stitch from a magazine and the free gift that was on the cover, both The World of Cross Stitching and Cross Stitcher, both UK magazines have a cover kit and instructions on how to start, all you need to remember is to keep the top leg of the X going the same way, and be warned this is just as addicting as quilting/knitting or any other craft you can think of.

  5. Enjoyed your 2023 quilt parade today, Kimberly! Love Aurifil thread, Have a great 2024! Thank you!
