2021 Serendipity Quilt Along – Fabric Requirements

We’re almost ready for our 8th Annual Charity Quilt Along, Serendipity! We’re diving into this year’s quilt along with the fabric requirements for this beautiful quilt and a special charity auction to benefit Make-a-Wish!

If you’d like to make your quilt like ours using the Spring Brook fabric collection by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics, we have Quilt Kits and Backing Sets available. If you’re sewing with something different, download the fabric requirements to make this year’s charity quilt. If you’re unsure what thread to use, we found that 50wt Aurifil Thread (Color 2600) blends in nicely for piecing. Longarm Quilter Gina Tell quilted the Serendipity quilt with 60wt Glide Thread (Color Cool Grey 3) in pantograph design called Floral. The Serendipity pattern is written to work with traditional piecing and also with the following Foundation Paper Pads by It’s Sew Emma.

2″ Half Square Triangle Paper can be used, and it’s optional as well.

Serendipity Quilt Kit

The Serendipity Quilt Kit comes with lots of exclusive goodies, including four specialty Foundation Paper Piecing Pads by It’s Sew Emma that will be happy helpers for tricky blocks. The kit also comes packaged in an exclusive keepsake box with magnetic closure. When you purchase this quilt kit you will have all the block and finishing patterns before they are released from March through July of 2021. The Serendipity printed pattern set will only be available early as part of this kit.

Serendipity Backing Set

The Serendipity Specialty Pieced Backing Set comes with the backing pattern and an exclusive mousepad.

How the Fundraiser Works

If you’re new to our Charity Quilt Along, welcome! We offer the Serendipity patterns as FREE downloads during the quilt along for a suggested donation of $5 each (or $50 for all the patterns) to our Make-A-Wish Central & South Texas campaign. For the cross stitch pattern, we suggest $15 total.

Starting March 15, 2021, we will release two patterns each month for five months here on the blog. Simply follow along on our blog to download the patterns as they are posted! Also, Kimberly Jolly will be providing free video tutorials for each block on the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube channel to give you pointers for assembling your blocks.

Fat Quarter Shop is happy to be partnering with Moda Fabrics to match up to $30,000 each in donations for this worthy cause.

Charity Auction

Fat Quarter Shop is auctioning some special items to benefit this wonderful charity. The online auction begins on January 14 at 9 AM CT  and ends on January 24 at 9AM CT. There are two items that are being auctioned off, and all proceeds are going to Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. To join in the online charity auction, please click on the links below to have an opportunity to bid on these special pieces.

Bloom-Topia by Priscilla Blain

Priscilla Blain of The Real Housewives of Cross Stitch has created and beautifully finished this Bloom-Topia cross stitch for the auction, with 100% of the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish CSTX.

Stitches From The Heart

Kimberly will be auctioning off her Stitches from the Heart quilt, with 100% of the proceeds going to Make-A-Wish CSTX.
