Jolly Bar Row Along - Week 1 - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

Jolly Bar Row Along – Week 1

We’ve been patiently awaiting the start of the Jolly Bar Row Along, and now the wait is over! The Jolly Bar Book Volume 2 contains more than 20 fun, fast quilts made with Jolly Bars. In case you haven’t come across them before, Jolly Bars are a 5” x 10” exclusive Fat Quarter Shop precut that hit your sweet spot. To celebrate the book, we’re hosting the Jolly Bar Row Along!

Starting today, we’ll sew row-by-row for seven weeks to make this beautiful sampler quilt full of sparrows, butterflies, hearts and more! We have some friends sewing along with us who will be showing off their blocks each week so you can sew along with them and get motivation along the way!

Kimberly sewed hers up with the new Bloomington collection by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics.

We have the full Fabric Requirements HERE for you to use. You’ll need a copy of the Jolly Bar Book Volume 2. *Please note: Pre-washing and starching Jolly Bars is not recommended for patterns in this book. Make sure to measure twice before cutting and plan out fabric placement for this quilt.

Who’s Sewing Along – Featured Quilters

We have a fun lineup of quilters who will be sewing along with us during the event. Check out their social media and blogs to see their progress and tips along the way! Click on the photos below to see a larger image.

Some of our FQS staffers are joining in, too!

DOWNLOAD THIS WEEK’S CUTTING INSTRUCTIONS*

*You will make 12 Sparrow Tracks blocks using the cutting instructions provided and the instructions in your book.
The finishing instructions in the last week will have the instructions for joining the blocks into rows.

Keep up with the Jolly Bar Row Along!

We’ll see you back here on Monday, July 6, for the next block of the Jolly Bar Row Along, Spinning Spools! Please follow along on Facebook and Instagram for updates, and be sure to hashtag your progress with #JollyBarRowAlong on Instagram and Facebook so we can see and share your work!

Until then, Happy Quilting!

  1. I have one question regarding fabric usage. Will the leftovers from cutting be needed for additional blocks, or will they be scrap?

  2. Are we to just make the blocks for now? I don’t see instructions for joining them into the two rows.

    1. Hi Christine, Yes, I’m sorry about that not being clear. The finishing instructions in the last week will have the instructions for joining the blocks into rows.

  3. I have a quick question – will a jolly bar of fabric be enough for the backgrounds for the blocks? A second jolly bar, not the one used for the block designs. I assume I’ll have to get yardage for the sashing and border…
