Announcing the Vintage Bowtie Sew Along!

We couldn’t be more excited to see Joanna Figueroa’s latest book, Strawberry Garden, arrive at Fat Quarter Shop! The book holds so much quilty goodness inside, with twenty-one different blocks, a gorgeous cover quilt, four bonus quilts, one tablerunner, one tabletopper and three pillows!

To celebrate the release of her book, we’re joining Joanna for the Vintage Bowtie Sew Along!

The sew along starts on Tuesday, May 14 and will last for six weeks. Joanna has invited some special friends to join us each week, and they’ll have some fun giveaways, too!  Follow Joanna on her InstagramFacebook Group, or blog for all the details and inspiration throughout the sew along! Kimberly will be sewing along and sharing her progress, too.

The Vintage Bowtie Fancy Quilt is in two sizes, and you can sew either one. Whether you sew yours in two-color or technicolor, this quilt is sure to be an instant classic. You’ll need the book for the pattern, and some optional supplies are listed below.

We’re providing the fabric requirements for the quilt for those who didn’t get a spot in the Block of the Month club. You can find them in the Strawberry Garden Quilt Book Announcement. The Bowtie Fancy Quilt Fabric Requirements are below.

  1. Why would we need the book just for one bow tie block, which is a classic block easily found in many tutorials?

    1. Hi Ansje!
This quilt along is in celebration of the book. There are twenty one block patterns, four bonus quilts, several pillows, a tablerunner and tabletopper in Strawberry Garden. Vintage Bowtie is just the quilt that we selected for the celebratory sew along. If you want to read more about the book you can see our first post on it here: https://blog.fatquartershop.com/announcing-strawberry-garden-by-joanna-figueroa/

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!

  2. I kind of had the same question… but I ordered it with some of the jelly rolls that were on sale! I love looking through new books… you never know when inspiration is needed! There are several patterns in there from the previews that look intriguing! 🙂
I think I have some scrap fat quarters just waiting for the right project!

  3. This looks like a great quilt along. I’m really happy to support these quilters and buy their books, but I sure wish that more of the books were offered in a digital format. I just don’t need another hard copy book in my house now that I’ve downsized. But thanks so much for hosting these quilt alongs and for the great service I always receive from the Fat Quarter Shop.

  4. I would love to learn how to repair my Great Grandmother-in-law’s Bowtie quilt, with 1930’s fabric. Looks like many fabrics were trimmed too narrow, as it hangs on my quilt ladder. She used a cream. Solid background. Bow ties look to be shirting/ dress fabric; some not very tightly woven as others. It is a full size quilt. Any suggestions?
