Sewcialites 2 Block 14 – Enchant Block by April Rosenthal

We’re celebrating our quilting community with a free block of the week quilt along called the Sewcialites 2 Quilt Along. We’ve joined forces with 24 talented designers to bring you all-new, unique sampler blocks! If you’re just joining us, you can find all of the details on the Sewcialites 2 Supplies Page. This week we’re excited to share Block #14, designed by April Rosenthal!

This week’s designer is April Rosenthal of Prairie Grass Patterns (@aprilrosenthal), who sewed the 9″ version of her Enchant block. April made her block with selections from her stash, including fabrics from Art Gallery Fabrics, Carolyn Friedlander, and cute cuts from her Love Lily and Midnight Magic collections for Moda Fabrics.

Here’s what she shared about her design, “I love this block because it’s so simple but is so striking! Since there are several different shapes to work with, mixing and matching fabrics can really be fun. In my block, I used different values of my orange and white theme to create contrast. I’m sewing from my scrap stash and only using orange and white because orange is my favorite color, and it’s about time I made a quilt for me!”

We’ve sewn the Enchant block with different collections in all three size options. The 3″ block is sewn with Nutmeg by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics, the 6″ block in Dwell by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics, and the 9″ block using Cinnamon & Cream by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda Fabrics.

You can join Kimberly for a live sewing tutorial of the Enchant block live in the Friday Livestream on Fat Quarter Shop’s YouTube Channel.

For reference, here are the sizes that she is sewing.

Blocks 1-89″

  1. A goal for 2023 is to create one Quilt-Along. Thank you for the free download of your Sewcialites 2 patterns. It’s nice to have the option to use from my storage of fabrics, and I have several jelly rolls, yardage, and sooo many fat quarters. I was not able to join in on the
Sewcialites 1, however, I’m catching up on S2, thanks again for the opportunity of using your free patterns. I look forward to completing this Quilt-Along with you. BTW, I caught your live stream with you and your husband, Kevin, it’s so nice to put his face to his name. Both of your are so very genuine and I appreciate all you do for your community and us all to invite us into your genorousity.

  2. I like to use cotton quilting fabric best. I do like a good soft flannel for the backing on lap quilts. It is soft for babies and warm at fall football games.
