Learning to Cross Stitch with Robin Pickens!

It’s time to share another Quilt Goals 2023 project with you! This year we’ve been working towards some Quilt Goals to grow in our quilting practice and to learn new skills. If you like to cross stitch or have been thinking  about getting into it, I think you’ll enjoy seeing what Robin Pickens is stitching for #QuiltGoals2023. She’s jumped into cross stitch in a big way, so let’s take a look!

Robin’s goal was to start cross stitching, so she followed our Beginners Guide to Cross Stitch to learn how to get started! With her newfound craft, she set her sights on designing and creating this lovely Acorn Trio cross stitch (available as a downloadable PDF and paper pattern). Keep reading to learn more about Robin’s cross stitch journey and for a FREE cross stitch pattern!

Learning to Cross Stitch

Robin shared how she got started saying, “My first goal was to make some designs that would go along with my Forest Frolic fabric line (from Moda Fabrics, due out in July!). I wanted to use orange, red, brown, tan, greens and a touch of hot pink. My first project was Acorn Trio and I used a print from Forest Frolic called Little Fall Fling in Chocolate as the background within this frame.”

She then shared her inspiration for the Fall Frolic Sampler she designed, “I enjoyed this project so much that it motivated me to make more little acorns. And leaves. Swirly leaves and little vines and colorful Aspen leaves. I loved learning more in MacStitch as I designed new blocks and tried them out as minis before composing them into a Fall sampler.”

Finally she shared a little something for all of you, “To celebrate the start of my cross stitch journey, I wanted to share a little FREEBIE pattern for you from one of these blocks.”

For more cuteness overload, these zipper pulls are hard to resist! One has an acorn and a leaf, and the other has a little mushroom and set of leaves. These would look cute on our Burlap, Pumpkin, and Olive Mad for Plaid Project Bags.
