At long last, we’re ready for our next Halloween Mystery quilt along and stitch along! Beginning July 5, we’ll release a FREE Boo Crew quilt and cross stitch pattern each week for four weeks. Kimberly will guide you in sewing this quilt, so if you’re new to quilting (or want some company while you sew), this is a great place to start!
Each Tuesday from July 5-26, we will release a video tutorial on the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube Channel with a FREE quilt block pattern and cross stitch pattern. Join Kimberly as she guides you through cutting, stitching, and sewing a new block each week!
We won’t reveal the look of the quilt or cross stitch pattern until the very end. We’re sharing the very first part, but the rest is a secret. Bookmark this page, check back each week for updates, and subscribe to the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube Channel, so you never miss a new release.
Boo Crew Quilt
The quilt finishes at 33.5″ x 35.5″. If you want to sew a spooky version like ours, grab the Mystery Boo Crew Quilt Kit (due to start shipping to those who have reserved it on or by June 24), which includes fabric for the top, binding, and backing!
We are sewing our quilt with Too Cute to Spook by Me and My Sister for Moda Fabrics! This collection is just a touch cuter than spooky, making it the perfect choice.
See all the supplies for this sew along. Head to the Boo Crew supplies page for the products you will need.
An alternate background fabric option is this Bella Solids Gray (SKU# 9900-83).
To sew up this quilt in your favorite Halloween fabrics, download the fabric requirements.
Boo Crew Cross Stitch
The Boo Crew cross stitch measures 200w x 70h, finishing as a 14.375″ x 5″ rectangle when stitched on 14 count Aida! If you want to use a different cloth, try using our free Cross Stitch Calculator to find the size you need.
The Boo Crew Cross Stitch piece will be stitched in sections as we reveal a new portion of the pattern each week. Our Halloween-themed mystery quilt inspired this design, so give this pattern a go if you want a matching set.
The floss and cloth you choose are up to you, but we stitched ours with the Classic Colorworks Thread Pack (this pack has the DMC Threads that best match) on Peaceful Purple 14 Count Aida by Wichelt.
To make your cross stitch just like ours, visit the Boo Crew supplies page.
Boo Crew Pattern Releases
Please note for the cross stitch pattern that there are elements higher than the B. We have marked the midline of the design on the pattern with arrows and skipped down stitches above the B to account for the rest of the design. Please consider the blank spaces above the B as part of the design when planning your start point.
There are two ways to approach this:
1) Mark your margins and then fold your cloth in half at the margin lines and go by the midline we have marked on the pattern with arrows
2) Mark your top margin and then count down 21 stitches to start your B, the space above the B accounts for the rest of the design
We invited some friends to join us, and they’re sharing their progress along the way! You can follow them on social media for inspiration and tips.

It appears the link to the fabric requirements is not working.
Thanks,
It has been fixed. Thank you for pointing this out to us Cheryl! Excited for you to quilt along! 🙂
So fun! I loved last year’s Halloween mystery!
Love that photo of the delicious looking floss!
I don’t have any purple in my color scheme, would grey work with this?
Hi Susan! Yes, we even recommended a specific gray background in the quilt section above. We know purple isn’t for everyone, as much as we love this design.
Here is the link again to the Bella Solids Gray to save you the trouble: https://www.fatquartershop.com/bella-solids-gray-yardage?utm_source=blog&utm_medium=link&utm_campaign=squal-boo-crew-2022
And if you meant for Cross Stitch then Kimberly is going to be stitching on the a different fabric featured on the Supplies Page and it is more gray: https://www.fatquartershop.com/spooky-hollow-lite-14-count-aida-18-inch-x-27-inch-cross-stitch-cloth
Hope this helps! 🙂
Yes! Thank you for the link! I thought she had mentioned it in the last YouTube video but I couldn’t find it!👍🏼
BooCrewQAL–I needed to buy a few skeins of floss that I didn’t have, and couldn’t find DMC 3895. Is this an error, or is it a new color that all stores don’t have yet?
Hi Chris, we aren’t sure about other stores but this isn’t an error. You can find DMC 3895 in the thread pack and on our site here: https://www.fatquartershop.com/dmc-3895-medium-dark-beaver-gray-6-strand-embroidery-floss
Happy stitching! 🙂
Is there a link for the cute thread holder/cards?
Nvm…I found them! Fright Night FlossBitties—-SOO cute!!!
I received my fabric package today…BOO CUTE!!!
Got my fabric a few days ago , Boo Cute! When is the pattern 1 to come out? Starts on June 5 Thanks Ann
The first one is out now! July 5 through July 26! 🙂
Is there anyway to get some help/clarification on where to start with the cutting instructions? I bought the kit and don’t want to run out of fabric because I miscut something/didn’t cut something effectively.
Hi Jenny! Our quilt kits come with a generous amount of fabric just in case you do miscut something or need to fix something. We know that even the most experienced quilters can make mistakes.
Following Kimberly’s video and reading the pattern releases each carefully should help you avoid that though! If you have any concerns after that you can reach out to Customer Service and they can guide you.
July 5th not June 55
I just received my copy of Scrapiness Is Happiness by Lori Holt. I am in love with it!! It is overflowing with inspiration as well as wonderful tips and tricks for quilters no matter how much time they can devote to sewing. Kudos to everyone in the shipping department too. As I opened the box I felt the packing was done by someone who really wanted me to open a gift and not just a purchase. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.
Too cute!! I’m not a quilter but I’m going to try to follow along!
Hi, I have all the supplies for the Boo Crew cross stitch along. I am new to this. I missed the start on July 5th.
I don’t know where the instructions are located. I looked on this site and can’t find them.
I need help, please!
Thanks so much,
MJ
Hi MJ! The instructions are above under the “Boo Crew Pattern Releases” Heading. There are photos of the first releases and below them are links to the first block’s pattern, the video directions, and the first cross stitch release.
The remaining releases will be added below those at the dates listed.
Please let us know if you have any other questions!

I know this if off topic but I’m looking into starting my own blog and was curious what all is needed to get set up? I’m assuming having a blog like yours would cost a pretty penny? I’m not very web smart so I’m not 100 sure. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

If you know of any please share. Thanks!
