2020 Quilts Recap - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

2020 Quilts Recap

I think we should all raise a quilty toast to the close of 2020!  It’s been a difficult and challenging year for everyone, and I know we have all found a bit of “piece” and comfort at our sewing machines. I hope you enjoy this little archive of my finished quilts from 2020!  All of the pattern and fabric details are listed below, as well as the longarm quilter.

Charming Baby Sampler Quilt

We started off the year with a collection of precious blocks from Melissa Corry’s book Charming Baby, which features 10 baby quilts made from 5″ precuts.

Jolly Bar Row Along Quilt

We sewed our way row by row through the new Jolly Bar Book for a sweet throw-sized quilt complete with sparrows, butterflies, hearts. These patterns are perfect for beginners and last-minute gifts because they start with Jolly Bars, 5″ x 10″ precuts that sew up fast! I’m looking forward to The Jolly Bar Book Vol. 3, due out in February!

Mini Wonder Quilt

In celebration of Worldwide Quilting Day, we shared this pattern for a scrappy little number. Made with 2.5″ Mini Charm squares, the inspiration being a small world. Little did we know when we designed it just how small and interconnected our world was to become.

Jelly Snowflake Mystery Quilt

In July we sewed our way through a mystery quilt, revealing a new piece each week. It was sew much fun, and I can’t wait to share next summer’s mystery quilt with you! Look for the details here on the blog in May 2021.

Mini Stems

In September, I invited you to shop your stash! The challenge, to make a new quilt without purchasing new fabric, was one that many of you took up for Scrappy September. I chose Mini Stems by Fig Tree Quilts because of the size and small pieces it would be easy to put together! I love how cute this mini quilt is, and I had enough scraps to make two of them!

2020 Log Cabin

One of my recent traditions is to sew a yearly scrap quilt to capture memories by using leftovers from that year’s projects. In 2019 I made the Pinwheel Pinwheels Quilt and in 2020 it was the Log Cabin Quilt.

In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to make a Log Cabin block using foundation paper pads.

Moda Blockheads 3 Quilt

Moda Blockheads is a fun, free quilt along created by Moda Fabrics. This is the third year that Moda designers have brought this fun event to the quilty community with weekly block patterns! Not only are there free blocks in all styles, but Moda also shares several free setting patterns and has a Blockheads Facebook group where participants can share their progress along the way.

2021 Designer Mystery Block of the Month Quilt

While the look of the whole quilt is a secret for now, I can share part of the quilt for the 14th annual Designer Mystery Block of the Month Club. To see the whole quilt – well, that’s a mystery! You’ll just have to join the club to find out!

Basket of Blooms

This floral mini-quilt is so sweet, especially in Strawberries & Rhubarb fabrics. It’s available as a quilt kit and as a pattern.

Prim Flower Pillow

This pillow is one of the cutest things I’ve seen lately!

Sewcialites Block 2 Table Topper

This year we started the Sewcialites Sew Along to bring a free and fun weekly sew along to everyone. Each Friday morning, I demonstrate a new block tutorial on Livestream, with blocks designed by 18 different designers! For this design, I sewed sixteen 3″ versions of Block 2 together to make a table topper.

  • Designer: 18 talented designers
  • Pattern: Block 2 by Lisa Bongean from Sewcialites Sew Along
  • Fabrics: An assortment of All Hallow’s Eve, Figs & Shirtings, Shine On, Kimberbell Basics and other prints from my stash.
  • Pieced by Kimberly Jolly
  • Quilted by Gina Tell, Thread Graffiti
  • Size: 12.75″ x 12.75″

In this quilting Livestream I show you how to sew Block 2!

…And that’s a wrap!

I hope you’ll join me on Monday, January 4 at 9 AM CT on Fat Quarter Shop YouTube! I’ll share a 2020 Quilts Trunk Show and a preview of what I’m stitching in 2021!
