Let's Welcome the Charming Baby Sew Along! - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

Let’s Welcome the Charming Baby Sew Along!

Since Melissa Corry’s new book came out we’ve been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Charming Baby Sew Along! Charming Baby Quilts brings 10 original baby quilts to life, featuring the classic 5″ square charm pack precut. Each design uses one, two or three charm packs, making this an essential book to have on hand for gifts and celebrations.

Starting Wednesday, April 8, 2020, we’ll be sewing two block patterns a week for six weeks. The quilt we’re making uses a sampling of blocks from the book, and all together they make a beautiful twin-sized quilt. We have some friends sewing along with us who will be showing off their blocks each week and giving prizes along the way!

Kimberly sewed hers up with the Bonnie At Home fabric collection by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics. Green and red give it a real festive look!

A star, arrows and flowers are just a few of the blocks making an appearance.

In the center of the pieced back, the rocket ship from To the Moon Quilt makes a nice landing place for a personalized quilt label.

  1. Hi Everyone, I decided to use Charmed fabric collection for this quilt along and then realized its not a Moda fabric. Will this make a difference, or should I choose a moda fabric collection?

  2. I’ve got the book, straight from Melissa herself! 🙂 Now just to choose the charm packs!

  3. I haven’t decided on what material I will use, but I have a “home fabric store” stash to choose from. I have lots of American Jane fabric which is calling to me at the moment!

  4. I am using Susanna’s Scraps by Betsy Chutchian with a Butter Churn basics background. can’t wait!! And there are prizes!?! Even better!!!

  5. I am finally going to use my Bloomsbury fabric 🎉🎉🎉 I am excited to get started! Are the fabrics shown below your photos what you will be using for your quilts?

    1. Hi Julie, yes, that’s right. For some reason, the description of the fabrics disappeared but now it’s restored. I’m sure your quilt will look cute in Bloomsbury!

  6. I’m going to use Sunnyside up by Corey Yoder. Did I read somewhere that a 7 1/2x 7 1/2 ruler is needed as well as 7 inch finished triangle paper.

    1. Hi Tarra, For this one, it’s all based on charm packs, so you wouldn’t need the 7″ triangle paper. A ruler of almost any size would do. You’ll need something a little larger for sashing and borders and for squaring up blocks. Hope that helps!

  7. Can you use charm packs for the background fabric or does it have to be yardage?

    1. Hi Janice, You can for a lot of it, but you would need some yardage for bigger pieces. If they were thinking of it for a low volume background that would be super cute!

    1. Hi Sharon, you can definitely join us! You don’t have to sign up. Just follow along.

  8. I have been following fat quarter shop. Did not realize there were separate sites for the SAL. PLEASE REMEMBER SOME OF US ARE NOT COMPUTER SAVY. WHERE I LIVE I CANNOT GET INTERNET OR CABLE. The pictures of the designers need to have names under them. I can’t print anything out at home.Where I live we have been in lockdown for almost two months. It is hard to order things because I only have spotty reception for wifi. I have been sewing for charity since I was 9 years old, more than 70 years. I volunteer at a parenting group, it is hosted by Catholic Social Services.

    1. Thank you for bringing that to my attention, Marie. The names under each quilter had disappeared for some reason! They are now back where they should be. This is the main page where you can find all of the SAL details and cutting instructions. In addition to that, we have a blog post each week here on the Jolly Jabber where we show that week’s blocks in detail. I’m so glad you’re joining us! 🙂

  9. I am making mine with a dark background and using one Sherri and Chelsie charm pack, one with the fabric that looks like cork but isn’t and a ton of scraps as I am bound and determined to use fabric I have.

  10. Are there going to be cutting instructions for week 4?
I have not seen a link to download any on the blog.
    Thanks in advance.
