Top 10 Charm Pack Quilt Patterns

Give me five! 5″ squares of fabric, that is. I have collected some of my favorite charm pack-friendly quilt patterns to share with you today. Are you ready to see my top ten charm pack quilt patterns?

Charm Packs are 5″ squares that are small and affordable but can make amazing quilts. I’ve chosen 10 patterns from different designers that show a variety of styles for this awesome fabric precut. All these quilts listed below are available in paper and PDF versions, and if you’d like to see the full video of my picks, read on.

    6. I love the “Kindred Spirits” quilt. It is easy to adapt to your taste and creativity with choice of fabrics. Also the “Building Blocks” quilt, bright colored are my go to and this quilt is perfect for a happy bright quilt.

  3. My favorite is the video that Kimberly did using 25 5″ squares per block. I don’t think there is an official pattern, but this is my go-to quilt when I don’t want to really think about a specific pattern.

    1. My favorite is the Barn Star Quilt. I love stars in quilts and this large star is so pretty. I can imagine it done in red, white and blues and I have just the right charm pack to give it a go!

  4. Great patterns. I particularly like the spools ones. When I purchase charm packs, I usually buy 2 to 4 of them. It gives me more options when selecting a pattern to go with them.

  20. Barn Star2 all the way! It’s perfect for a charity baby quilt donation and I have made it with charms or cut up layer cake slices into charms to make this. So quick and easy it can be done in a weekend start to finish!

  23. I can’t say I have one particular favorite, but disappearing nine-patch is a pattern I have used often for charms. It’s super quick and easy. I just got a book of patterns for charms so I hope to find some new favorites.

  24. How can I pick a favorite? 😆 I don’t know the name, but I like one that uses plain charm squares mixed with 4 patch blocks. Also, a brick style.

  36. I really like the iconic 2 pattern. Just finished a charm quilt with all half square triangles throughout. I designed it myself my local shop gave us a challenge to make something with 32 HST, I ended up doing 36 on my quilt. So easy using the charm packs.

  51. I really loved the Crazy Daisy pattern in the August 2020 sew sampler box. Another favorite was Starry Checkers by Corey Yoder in the March 2021 sew sampler box.

  65. I like Moda’s Bake Shop pattern, Square Dance. Mostly I love just creating my own patterns with the charm squares, they are so much fun!

  66. I love the free Moda pattern Charm Star for using up a charm pack. I made one for my son and his wife and want to get another one made soon with my Nantucket charm pack. It’s easy to make this quilt bigger by adding additional and wider boarders.

Just finished the Support quilt and I love it I did all pink bras and by border is breast cancer flowers and ribbons. Quilted with hearts and cancer ribbons! Going on 3 yr. Cancer free!   104. My favorites from the list above are Knot today, Diamond dust, and Iconic 2. I also like the shadow box pattern for a quick smaller quilt.

  105. I like the “Moda Love Charm” quilt pattern (not featured as part of Kimberly’s Top 10). It’s a small and satisfying wall hanging or baby quilt that’s good for beginners. It’s also appealing because quilters can alter the setting of the 4.5” HSTs to make slightly different versions, or add more 4.5” HSTs & charms to increase the overall quilt size.

  106. The Barn Star 2 is lovely! For my last charm pack(s) quilt I loved the Effie’s Woods line so much, I mixed up two charm packs (plus yardage & panel ~ thanks FQS!) and just sewed them together to make my granddaughter’s quilt. I also used Lori Holt’s name pattern to add her name to the top of the quilt. My LQS loved it when I took it to them to longarm. Now I have a grandson on the way to make another quilt for ❤️

  113. When I first started quilting I was in the layer cake club at FQS. I love the Knot Today quilt where I can cut each piece into four 5” squares to make this quilt.

  117. I was thrilled to find the spool pattern quilt here. My mother in law passed away recently at 103, and when cleaning out her home, we found this beautiful quilt. I had never seen one. I was not the recipient of it, but fell in love with it. I have since found a new hobby in quilting and am determined to make one myself in the near future. Thank you for sharing!

  118. My new favorite Charm pack pattern is the simple Clam Shell quilt pattern. I just made one of these quilts to enter in our local county fair.

  124. So many beautiful patterns. I am new to quilting and have managed to make one quilt using a charm pack it was the Lemonade Quilt pattern and I used the Tula Pink Tiny Beasts charm pack. It made a beautiful crib quilt for my new granddaughter.
    I like purchasing charm packs because they are affordable and you are still able to make great quilts from them.

  129. I love Prairie Flowers. It would work a treat with a charm pack. I’ve actually made it for my Mum using fat quarters and cutting but still plan to make one in the pattern for myself, (at last!). Loving this quilting thing, taught myself off YouTube and the internet through blogs like this when I broke my arm last Christmas. So much to learn, so many patterns and fabrics and techniques and precuts. I don’t think I will ever stop!

  139. Chandelier by Lella Boutique is my favorite charm quilt pattern. I just started quilting last week for the first time and loved the class I took at Heyde Sewing in St. Louis. So Chandelier is on my bucket list to make! Quilting is so fun and exciting. Thank you for all you do!

  140. I love to make baby quilts by setting a charm pack on point and then adding an inner and outer border. It turns out the perfect size.

  148. My choice is the Barn Star 2 quilt. I live the pastel piecing used for the star and you could just add birders to make a larger quilt.

  150. I love working with charm packs, they are so versatile. Vanessa Goertzen’s pattern “Snowfall” is an all time favorite of mine and as versatile as the charm pack itself!

  151. I started a thread spool quilt and I need to get it out and finish it. I used some of the thread spool blocks on a vest I made. I love my fat quarter shop

  152. My favorite charm pack quilt so far is a sortof falling charms I made with african animal prints.

  153. The Barn Star is beautiful and I love just sewing the charms together into simple patchwork.
