We’re celebrating our quilting community with a free block of the week quilt along called the Sewcialites 2 Quilt Along. We’ve joined forces with 24 talented designers to bring you all-new, unique sampler blocks! If you’re just joining us, you can find all of the details over on the Sewcialites 2 Landing Page. This week we’re excited to share Block #5 designed by Carrie Nelson!
This week’s designer, Carrie Nelson, is a talented quilter and author who has written many beloved designs under the name of Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company. She designed the Empower block which features several half-square triangles and she sewed using Isabella by Minick & Simpson for Moda Fabrics. She shared, “Before trimming down and triangle paper, blocks like Empower made me crazy because they were usually wonky. Getting better at them was like opening a new box of 64 crayons. I could PLAY.”
Blocks 1 through 5 are looking good! It’s hard to go wrong with a classic color combo like red, white and blue.
We’ve sewn the Empower block with different collections in all three size options. The 3″ block is sewn with Nutmeg by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics, the 6″ block in Dwell by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics, and the 9″ block using Cinnamon & Cream by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda Fabrics.

I love the empowered block shown today. I would need to make the larger size. I haven’t started yet but am saving the patterns.
I’ve got to challenge myself and make the 3″ block! The 1/2″ finished HST’s are a challenge calling my name to master!
