Welcome, Quilters! Last week The Modern Quilt Guild hosted another fantastic QuiltCon, this one was all virtual (which meant we could take class in our pajamas snuggled under our favorite quilt. Score!) QuiltCon Together 2021 featured all of the QuiltCon goodness we’ve come to expect, from world-class instructors to exclusive exhibits, and a quilt show that is unlike any other!
We all know the quilt show is one of the most exciting parts of the conference! It’s inspiring to see the boundless innovation and beauty from so many quilt artists all in one place. Congratulations to all the winners of QuiltCon Together Quilt Show, and to all who showed their quilts!
Small Quilts Winners
We are proud sponsors of QuiltCon Together and the Small Quilts category! We want to give a special shout-out to the winners of the Small Quilts Category. Let’s take a look.
1st Place: Watercolor Study No.6
26” x 25”
By Audrey Esarey (@cottonandbourbon)
Individual Member
Louisville, Kentucky, USA
With a clever choice of colors, these solid fabrics create the illusion of transparency in radiating circles. Wow!
2nd Place: Dusk
24.75” x 24.75”
Pieced and quilted by Marilyn Knepp
Individual Member
Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA
This piece was inspired by an empty cityscape where people are staying home for safety during COVID.
3rd Place: Graffiti
13” x 14”
Pieced and quilted by Debra Jalbert (@madeofhonorquilts)
Orlando MQG
Clermont, Florida, USA
Debra used raw edge applique to create this vibrant quilt! You can see how she made the quilt in this video.
Those quilts pack an amazing amount of detail into a shape with a perimeter of 119″ or less! You can see all the QuiltCon winners on their website, and peruse the hashtag #QuiltConTogether on Instagram for more inspiration!
Did you know The MQG is comprised of more than 200 guilds around the world with more than 15,000 members? Next week we’ll be back to share with you a profile on the Houston Modern Quilt Guild to get an up-close look at what guild life is all about.
