It’s Sew Emma Spotlight: Gumdrop Garden

Hello and thanks for stopping by the Jolly Jabber today! We are very excited for a couple of reasons and we can’t wait to share the excitement with you! Not only do we get to welcome back Debbie Taylor, but she has some incredibly thrilling quilt news to share with us, too!

Several weeks back, we wrote a blog post about Lush by Patty Young and the Lush quilt I designed, Gumdrop Garden.

The quilt was lucky enough to hang is Patty’s booth at Fall Quilt Market in Houston. While there, an international distributor for Michael Miller just happened to drop by and ask if he could take my Gumdrop Garden quilt back to Australia for their big quilt market. Of course we said yes! And so off went the quilt to Australia!

The travel bug bit again shortly after and the quilt was off to France for their quilt market. Apparently the quilt and the fabric had quite the impact and it was even blogged about in French here. From France, Gumdrop Garden traveled to Belgium and is currently en route to Spain! Now, you have to understand, these are all places on my Bucket List to visit someday. How did my quilt get so lucky to do all this traveling?!  I’m so insanely envious! When the trade show in Spain is over, Gumdrop Garden will fly back to New York with all the other Lush goodies. After New York, it’s on to Patty Young at ModKid Boutique in Illinois, where she will hold on to it for a bit, displaying it in her office!

Someday…down the road a wee bit…Gumdrop Garden will make its way back to the Fat Quarter Shop and me, here in Texas! I’m sure it will have lots of stories to tell about the people it saw and the places it has been…if only quilts could talk! If you’ve been to any of these markets in Europe and Australia and have seen my quilt, leave me a comment, I’d love to hear about it!

Meanwhile, you could make a Gumdrop Garden quilt just like mine from all the beautiful “Lush” fabrics. The Gumdrop Garden Quilt Pattern is available in print as well as a PDF Downloadable pattern.

  1. Wow! Just seeing this colorful quilt brightened up the cold, grey, winter day that I'm having here. I like that big lotus blossom behind her.

  2. Congratulations to you and your quilt! You are right, you and your quilt should be together and travel together. hehe. What a great honor! It's gorgeous fabric and it makes a gorgeous quilt.

  3. Melanie here! I enjoyed this piece, please email me–I have a question about your blog. MelanieLBowen[at]gmail[dot]com
