Designer Select: Gerri Robinson

Gerri Robinson of Planted Seed Designs allows us to take a look inside her vintage inspired world with her debut collection for Red Rooster Fabrics, Attic Treasures. Lucky for you, Gerri stopped by the Fat Quarter Shop to put together a special bundle of Attic Treasures! Gerri Robinson’s Designer Select Fat Quarter Bundle features 12 prints and three coordinating solids. Keep reading to find out more and enter to win a bundle for yourself!

Q: What was your inspiration behind Attic Treasures?
A:“Attic Treasures” was inspired by two sources; an antique, worn and tattered stripe I purchased on one of my many “antique collecting” jaunts and a linen covered button I purchased several years back at Houston Quilt Market. The inspiration and “aha” moment were almost a “collision” at the same time. The antique stripe provided the “base” in which the collection would be created and the button provided the color palette and scale of the coordinating prints; and the rest just fell into place from there.

Q: What inspired you to pick the colors and designs in your Designer Select Fat Quarter Bundle?
A:The large tossed floral on blue ground was the jumping off point for my print selection. The print is chock full of pinks, greens, yellows and blues making the rest of the prints easy to select. I included the tonal dot in ivory as the neutral base to build any design upon. I also included the ivory and blue tonal as an additional design base rounding out a fun palette to let your creativity flow.

Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe Attic Treasures?
A:1. Soft/delicate pastel florals
2. Petite/ditsy prints
3. Classic/timeless design

Q: Tell me about your sewing machines. What kind do you have and how many?
A:I’m forever Pfaff girl. I didn’t start on a Pfaff but you know what they say; “it’s not where you start but rather where you land/end that matters. I [HEART] my Pfaff!

I alternate between my two machines; the “Producer” and the “Deadline Diva”. No, the names are not Pfaff branded but rather names I have given my machines. Inevitably, the “Producer” is tried and true and gets the job done each and every time except when it comes to last minute deadlines and that’s when I switch over to my “Deadline Diva” to get me to the finish line. I’m thinking about adding another Pfaff to the mix but I don’t know what its real function would be. Maybe I need a machine that will help me “Chill”; sounds like it may come with an embroidery hoop.

*2 Truths and a Lie*

  15. I'm going to say 2 is false, though I think she could have accomplished any of them if she put her mind to it.
