Create an Orange Peel Project with Sherri McConnell!

It’s time to share another Quilt Goals 2023 project with you! In January, I invited you to set a quilting goal that will bring you a little outside your comfort zone. It’s a good way to challenge yourself, learn a new skill and add something special to your quilt practice. Some quilty friends are sharing their projects with us each month on the blog. Are you ready to see what Sherri McConnell is making for #QuiltGoals2023?

Sherri’s goal was to make something using orange peels, and she created this adorable pillow!

Making a Pillow with Orange Peel Units

You might enjoy this orange peel method if you’re intimidated by a traditional Orange Peel design. Sherri says, “I made a pillow using 16 blocks with the orange peel units hand-appliqued to the background squares. I did horizontal straight line quilting about 3/4″ apart.”

The Bountiful Blooms fabrics designed by Sherri & Chelsi for Moda Fabrics are bright and cheerful.

You can learn more about making a pillow with orange peel units in Sherri’s blog and a free video tutorial. She has a free orange peel pattern and template for you!

Sherri’s blog is full of quilting tutorials and inspiration, so head over to check out more of her projects and tutorials. Follow Sherri on social media (@aquiltinglife) to see what she’s making.

  1. I never knew how to make an orange peel and now I do. A great video and clear instructions. I can’t wait to make a couple pillows for fall and winter. Thanks FQS and Sherri McConnell.
