Amelia Quilt: Tyler’s New Big Girl Bed!

Hi everyone!

This is Debbie Taylor from the Fat Quarter Shop. I recently made a new quilt for my granddaughter’s big girl bed and I couldn’t wait to show everyone what I made!

The Amelia collection by Me & My Sister Designs is here and I could hardly wait to make something from the fabric! I was drawn to the pattern “Dots & Charms Bed Runner & Pillows by Cotton Way, but I wanted to expand the pattern to fit a twin size bed.

I loved the pink dot fabric, so I choose 22167-12 as the background. For a twin size I needed 88 – 8.5” unfinished blocks so I purchased 4 ½ yards.

I cut all the circles and squares from an Amelia Fat Quarter Bundle. I had lots of fabric leftover but I loved having so many choices for the pattern.

To make the circle blocks, I made a plastic template for the 2 circles. Then I traced the circles on the wrong side of the fabrics and cut the circles out.  I then repeated for the squares.

To assemble the circle blocks, I placed the larger circle in the center of my 8 ½” square. I stitched ¼” in from outside edge of the circle and I used a stitch length of 1.5. Then I placed the smaller circle in the center of the larger circle and stitched using the same method.

When this quilt is completed and washed, the raw edges are going to fray and I wanted to be sure they didn’t fray past the stitching.

I assembled the square blocks with the same shorter stitch length.

It was really fun to put the different color combinations together with this fabric collection. Each block is bright and cheerful.

Here is the layout alternating the circles with the squares.

Here is the finished quilt for my granddaughter, Tyler’s new big girl bed!!!!
