We’re shaking things up on the Jolly Jabber! We are bringing life back to our old projects with Blog Remixes! Every other Thursday until November 15, we will be throwing it back to one of our tutorials with new fabrics, notions, tips and tricks to inspire you to make your next project. Whether you’ve seen this project before or it’s your first time, there’s a remix project for everyone. This week’s remix is the La Conner Tote! Jera Brandvig made this adorable bag using her La Conner collection while videoing with us last year. This bag can be customized to any taste and great for any use!
Quilty Staffer Susan made her La Conner Tote using Dear Mum by Robin Pickens for Moda Fabrics. She said “I used a charm pack and forgot to cut the squares down to 4″, so I ended up with a large tote, measuring approximately 6″ x 18″ at the bottom and 24″ across the top. I also used 1 1/2″ strapping for the handle instead of 1″, since it was a large bag. Loved making this bag!“
Kristina of Center Street Quilts (@centerstreetquilts) made her La Conner Tote using Wonderland by Rifle Paper Co. for Cotton + Steel Fabrics. She said “The La Conner tote is the perfect project to use large scale prints or novelty fabric that you don’t want to cut up! Turns out Wonderland was a perfect choice for the La Conner Tote and I love being able to see the full scale of the print all together in one place!”
Quilty Staffer Nova made her La Conner Tote using Front Yard by Sarah Watts for Cotton + Steel Fabrics. She says “I used the project pack size of Soft and Stable so my bag is a little smaller. Even though the original uses squares for the outside, I had fun sewing strips together to make my bag.”
Quilty Staffer Codi made her La Conner Tote using Panda Love by Kelly Panacci for Riley Blake Designs. She says “My daughter absolutely loves all things Panda, when I saw this fabric collection, I knew I’d use it to whip up this fun and easy La Conner tote back for going back to school!”
This project is easy to make, scrap friendly and perfect for your own home or as a gift! Be sure to share your projects using #laconnertote and tag us (@fatquartershop) so we can see and share your work!
We were sew happy that we had Camille Roskelley of Thimble Blossoms (and one part of the dynamic fabric designing duo, Bonnie & Camille) come to Fat Quarter Shop to film with us! One of the videos Camille did with us over her favorite notions! Here they are:

We are on the final countdown for the Clementine Charity Quilt Auction, which will end Saturday 8/25 at 9 AM CST! This year, we are auctioning off our quilty friend Pat Sloan’s (@quilterpatsloan) quilt! She made her quilt using Kate Spain’sVoyage collection for Moda Fabrics. All proceeds from this auction will go to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
It has been quilted gratis for charity by Cindy & Dennis Dickinson with a swirly floral design using a cornflower blue thread and low loft batting. It finishes at a nice lap size of 54.5″ x 71.5″. On the back, she has added a handwritten quilt label, and the backing is an artful assortment of scraps.
Be sure to check out our original post HERE to get more details on the quilt along and charity auction as well as all the detail on the Fat Quarter Shop and Moda matching for donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital!
