Welcome to the Summer Moon Block of the Month Quilt Along! - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

Welcome to the Summer Moon Block of the Month Quilt Along!

Summer is right around the corner and what better way to kick off the new season than with the gorgeous Summer Moon Quilt from the Summer Moon Block of the Month Book! Carrie Nelson, beloved quiltmaker, designer and writer, has created a sampler quilt unlike any other. The Summer Moon quilt is for her fellow quilters who love samplers, but also crave a touch of whimsy!

This quilt along will go along the schedule of the Summer Moon Block of the Month. We’re sold out of both the vintage and modern block of the months. However, using the fabric requirement below, you can make your own version, or follow along with our three quilters who are using other collections for this quilt along. We cannot wait to get started!

What you’ll need to Quilt Along

All you’ll need to get started is the Summer Moon Block of the Month Book and your choice of fabrics! Here are the general fabric requirements to make your version of the Summer Moon Quilt:

Quilt Along Schedule

This quilt along will follow along with the Block of the Month Schedule in the Summer Moon Block of the Month Book. Each month, we will be sharing the blocks our quilty friends who are quilting along with us made for that month. Over on our YouTube channel, we’ll release a new video for each block where designer Carrie Nelson gives tips for success on each block (with a little of her trademark humor thrown in!). The Jolly Jabber will have a total of 4 blog posts to recap all of the blocks and the finalized quilts! Here is the schedule:

August 27, 2019 – Will go over blocks made in months 1 – 4

December 27, 2019 – Will go over blocks made in months 5 – 8

  1. Thankful I pre-ordered the Modern version when it was first offered. Can’t wait to get it and get started!

  2. I have never ordered a quilt like this before. What do I receive each month?

    1. Hi JoEllen, Each month you will receive a small package with the pattern and fabrics you need for that block. You’ll usually have more fabric than you need in case you need to recut anything.

  3. I’ve just begun mine and it seems the cutting directions for block 1, album, are either incorrect or very confusing. I checked block 2 and 3 and those seem correct. Are corrections listed anywhere?

  4. Amy, I was wandering the same thing. I made mine today and had extra fabric left over. Anxious to hear the answer.

    1. Betty, me too. It says cut “from each” on all of them so there were too many pieces the way I followed it. Glad I wasnt the only one lol. Hope there’s no more mistakes. This is going to be a gorgeous quilt!

  5. Are there corrections to this Summer Moon listed any where? I have a question on Churn Dash large measurement for the HST.

  6. I followed the cutting instructions for checkerboard. The large block is 11 inches when trimmed! The smallest one measures 7.75, which is close to the large size.
