This September, I encourage you to sew up your scrap fabrics into something beautiful. When I sew, I end up with a lot of leftover fabrics. I wanted to see what I could make with those leftover fabrics and was inspired to get scrappy. This September, I am challenging you to make a new quilt 100% from your scrap stash like I did.
I chose a scrap-friendly pattern, and gathered a few more scrappy patterns for you! When you are looking for the perfect pattern to use your leftover fabrics, you’ll want a quilt that calls for small pieces in the fabric requirements. Consider the size of your scrap stash and choose a quilt pattern accordingly.
I chose 5 of my favorite scrappy patterns to help you decide what to sew this September. Whatever you sew, be sure to share it with me on social media using #FQSScrappySeptember so we can keep each other accountable. By the end of the month, we should all have a quilt made with what was left from other projects! I’ll be hosting a contest all month with prizes. Read on to learn more!
When I decided to sew up my scraps I chose to sew Mini Stems by Fig Tree Quilts! I love how cute this mini quilt is, and I had enough scraps to make two, so that is what I did! To start, I collected all of my scraps and sorted them by color. I chose scraps that had floral designs and coordinating colors. I just need to bind my quilts and I will be done!
I have other pattern recommendations for you and have even included a free option.
Every day is a good day for Knot Today! With an intricate woven look, this design starts with just three 5″ Charm Packs, making this quilt pattern is a wonderful stash-buster. You will “knot” believe how much you will love this quilt!
Pick scraps large enough to cut down into 5ā³ squares.Ā Leftover Layer Cake squares are great for this too. You’ll want to pick a solid background fabric to show off the trellis pattern. This pattern is available as a downloadable PDF and as a printed pattern.
Get ready to whip up a spread of scrumptious squares! The 54.5ā x 68ā quilt is quick to make and has such a fun effect. Play with bright and colorful fabrics for the full effect! Fantastic for beginners, this pattern uses a Layer Cake and It’s Sew Emma’s Creative Grids Perfect 10 Ruler. Itās a combination of 5ā and 10ā squares, perfect for using up remnants of Layer Cakes and Charm Packs!
This pattern is meant to look scrappy, so using mismatched prints and colors will work just fine! You can get this pattern as a downloadable PDF or a printed pattern.
“Muffin” compares to you! This FREE Downloadable PDF Pattern includes 5 different size options, from Crib to Queen, so you can let your scraps determine the size of your quilt. Starting with 2.5″ squares, these simple blocks go together with a twist to make a charming quilt.
If you need help sewing up this pattern, I have a FREE video tutorial where I show you how I pieced this block!
If you are reading via email, please click here to watch the tutorial.
Got a Jelly Roll or fabric for some 2.5″ strips laying around? You can start with as little as twelve 2.5″ strips to make a cute Crib-sized quilt. The Trifles pattern comes in four quilt sizes, which means you can get started with what you have on hand and see how far it takes you!
I have a FREE video tutorial for this pattern where I show you how to make a block. It’s a super easy pattern and will look great in whatever fabrics you choose,
