How To Make A Sewing Machine Cover: Step By Step Quilted Sewing Machine Cover Tutorial - The Jolly Jabber Blog

Three Quilted Sewing Machine Covers for National Sewing Machine Day

Happy National Sewing Machine Day to all of our quilty friends! June 13th is dedicated to celebrating the tool that brings sew much joy, creativity, and community into our lives—the sewing machine! Today, we’re rounding up three of our favorite sewing machine cover patterns. One is from our 2022 National Sewing Machine Day celebration, and the other two are by Joanna Figueroa and Lori Holt. Have fun exploring these projects and get ready to be inspired to treat your favorite power tool to an accessory that is equal parts functional and fashionable.

Today is also the perfect day to tell you how much I love my Industrial Juki from Juki Junkies. My machine (Juki DDL-9000C) has so many new features to love and learn, but after sewing with it for over a year, I can say it’s the best sewing machine I’ve ever used!

A Sewing Machine Cover That’s as Unique as You – Fat Quarter Shop

Back in the summer of 2022, we designed a sewing machine cover that features two 12″ blocks—any 12″ blocks you want! For the one we made this year, we did a simple four patch block on one side, and the Rolling Star Block from our Classic & Vintage series on the other. The fabrics in the Dinah Sunny Side Fat Eighth Bundle were the perfect pick for brightening up the sewing room for summer! See the list below for everything you need to make this sewing machine cover:

Take a Spin With the Vintage Spools Sewing Machine Cover – Joanna Figueroa

A Scrapbook of Quilts by Joanna Figueroa is one of the books on our shelves that I love to go back to! The scrappiness of all the projects is right up my alley, and there’s something about the spool quilt blocks that takes me back to a simpler time. After doing a little quilt math, we realized that a Jolly Bar is the perfect precut for the printed parts of this block, and the summery Denim & Daisies Jolly Bar was an instant yes! For the backing, we used the Denim & Daisies Wovens 45″ Patchwork Yardage for a pieced look in a fraction of the time. Here is everything you need to make this vintage-inspired sewing machine cover:

Get Scrappy With a Sewing Machine Cover That Doubles as A Mat – Lori Holt

I can’t stop making projects with all of the pretty prints in the Americana Collection by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs. So, for National Sewing Machine Day, I cracked open my copy of Quilty Fun by Lori Holt and made the perfectly scrappy Sewing Machine Cover & Mat! Here is what you will need to make one of your own:

  1. Such cute designs! With little or no revision, these covers can fit a Kitchen Aid stand mixer too.

  2. I love the Dinah Sunnyside fabric so I purchased the fat quarter bundle and a bit more of the green backing to add an extra panel to the sides to make it completely cover one of my machines. I have 3 black cats and one of them likes to eat thread so I have to make sure he can’t find any! LOL. Hope there is enough in the fat quarter bundle to make a block for the other side.

  3. I made one using fig tree book and fig tree fabric. I used the pattern but used orphan blocks to fill it out. Thanks for the inspiration as always
