Bedding Measurement Guide
The first and most obvious thing to consider when picking a quilt size is the size of the bed it is intended to go on. If you know what size bed you’re sewing for, reference the Bedding Measurement Guide below to make sure that what you plan to make will fit. How To Choose the Right Quilt Size
We’ve given you standard quilt sizes based on mattress dimensions, but there are no absolutes regarding quilt sizes. For more inspiration on how to choose the right quilt size for you, someone you love, or your next quilting adventure, see the options below! We’ve also included links to shop the quilt kits that we have in stock for each of the sizes for even more inspiration.

1. Crib Quilt Size: 36″ x 36″
Crib quilts take the charm of baby quilts and add a pinch of practicality. They fit snugly in cribs, providing a layer of warmth and comfort for those precious sleepy hours. And when your little one outgrows the crib, these quilts make wonderful play mats. Bear in mind that a quilt should never be left in the crib with your child until they’re at least 12 months old.
2. Baby Quilt Size: 36” x 56”
Think of these little darlings as the perfect welcome-to-the-world gift. Baby quilts are perfect for cozying up your little one, making tummy time a plush affair, or even decorating a nursery. Not too big, not too small – just right.
3. Lap Quilt Size: 48” x 66”
Lap quilts are the cozy companions you never knew you needed. They’re ideal for curling up on the couch with a good book or movie, adding a touch of warmth and color to your living room or even your car for those long road trips. They also make thoughtful gifts.
4. Twin Quilt Size: 63” x 87” (Twin XL: 70″ x 95″)
The twin quilt is the reliable friend every child’s room or dorm room needs. This quilt size is great for adding color and comfort without overwhelming a smaller bed. Perfect for building the ultimate fort or keeping warm in those study sessions, twin quilts provide versatility and cozy vibes. Fun fact: Dorm room beds are typically Twin XL – 5″ longer than standard twin beds.
5. Full-Size Bed Quilt: 78” x 87”
Full-size bed quilts bridge the gap between twin and queen sizes. They offer a comfortable fit for full-size (aka double beds). They’re fantastic for giving guest rooms that welcoming touch, or for snuggling up in on a lazy afternoon.
6. Queen Quilt Size: 84” x 92”
Ah, the queen quilt—it’s all in the name! Designed for queen beds, this size is perfect for making a stylish splash in any bedroom. Offering just the right amount of coverage, queen quilts can also double as statement décor pieces.
7. King Quilt Size: 98” x 106”
Now we’re talking luxury! The king quilt is the pinnacle of quilt grandeur. Ideal for sprawling beds where mornings involve long, leisurely stretches. Heavy on coverage, this quilt size is also fantastic for those couches where the whole family gathers for movie night.
