Those treasured scraps have been waiting for their moment to shine, and it’s finally here! Since 2022, we have shared a scrappy pattern each year to help you turn leftover fabric into something you’ll love. After a little breather in 2026, we’re thrilled to introduce our newest design, the Sweet Woven Stars Sampler, a free pattern available exclusively at Fat Quarter Shop. The pattern uses four sizes of our Woven Star Foundation Paper for crisp, precise stars from small to large. Mix a medley of prints into each one, and no two blocks will look alike. Dig into your stash and get ready to see stars!
Sweet Woven Stars Sampler Supplies
This year’s pattern is written for foundation paper piecing and finishes at a flashy 60.5″ x 78.5″. Here is what you will need to make yours:
- Sweet Woven Stars 2027 Scrap Quilt Pattern Free PDF by Fat Quarter Shop
- Fabric
- Prints: use your scraps!
- Background: go scrappy, or use 7.5 yards of one background fabric
- Binding: 3/4 yard of fabric
- Backing: 5 yards of fabric
- Foundation Paper (one pad of each)
- Kimberly’s Foundation Paper Piecing Starter Kit, which includes:
- CutterPillar Glow Premium II (optional)
How Kimberly Is Making Her Sweet Woven Stars Scrap Quilt
Kimberly is keeping her stars sweet and bright with a palette of pink, green, blue, and yellow, and she’s skipping dark prints, browns, and grays altogether. To keep the quilt as scrappy as possible, she’s using each print only once. Each star needs just eight prints, so she can pull from lots of collections by different designers and manufacturers, and a bigger collection can stretch across a few blocks. Her favorite collections get the spotlight in the 12″ blocks, while small-scale prints fit perfectly into the 4″ blocks.
For the background, Kimberly chose the White on White X Print Yardage from Coriander Seeds by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics. She’ll pick her binding and backing once the quilt top is nearly finished.
