We’re celebrating our quilting community with a free block of the week quilt along called the Sewcialites Quilt Along. We’ve joined forces with 18 talented designers to bring you a free 38-week quilt along with amazing sampler blocks and sew many options! This week’s designer, Brigitte Heitland is an experienced modern quilter and the designer behind Zen Chic for Moda Fabrics. Brigitte designed the Affection block which is challenging but if you take your time, you should end up with a nice block. Don’t worry, you can watch Kimberly’s video tutorial on YouTube for some tips on putting it together. The Affection block calls for multiple half-square triangle units surrounding the center half-square triangle.
Brigitte sewed her 6″ Affection block from her collection Chill by Zen Chic for Moda Fabrics. Brigitte said she made her half-square triangles slightly larger and used a Bloc_Loc Ruler to trim it to the perfect size. Please note that for this pattern, we’re showing you how to make half-square triangles the traditional way. If you prefer to sew with Triangles on a Roll triangle paper, you can use the free Triangles on a Roll Guide for help selecting the right size. Refer to the unit measurement size on the pattern (the size of the HST unit), matching that to the Unfinished Size on the Triangles on a Roll Guide. If you are making half-square triangles that finish at less than 1” you can use the H100 paper and then trim the HSTs down to the needed size
