We’re celebrating our quilting community with a free block of the week quilt along called the Sewcialites Quilt Along. We’ve joined forces with 18 talented designers to bring you a free 38-week quilt along with amazing sampler blocks and sew many options! If you’re just joining us, you can find all of the details over on the Sewcialites Landing Page. We’re excited to get started with Block #1 this week!
This week’s designer, Lissa Alexander is known by many as ModaLissa (@modalissa), and she is the Marketing Director of Moda Fabrics. Lissa loves all things scrappy and designed her block to work in “harmony” with any fabric selection you choose. The Harmony block blends half square triangles with hourglass units for a fun and challenging first block!
Lissa sewed her 9″ Harmony block in scraps of Bella Solids by Moda Fabrics from her collection. Lissa shared a helpful tip for piecing her block. Starching the fabrics for this block can make piecing the smaller cuts easier and ultimately more accurate. Visit Lissa’s blog for more details.
Sewcialites Quilt Along
Kimberly’s block is sewed with the Homestead collection by April Rosenthal for Moda Fabrics. She made her block in all three sizes for a fun challenge.
We invited some FQS staffers to join
The suggested fabric requirements and all the block patterns released so far will be posted on the Sewcialites Landing Page so be sure to bookmark it for later reference.

Can’t get the pattern for block on…nothing on link????
click on the” download block one pattern” underneath red and white block above here
Clicking on the link brought up a page with 3/4 of the first page and the printing is to small to read. How did you get both pages?
If you go right up under Block 1 looks like it has the pattern download there.
I really love this block. Looking forward to making it this weekend!
What happens to those of us who do not have instagram to send in our photos to. Are we left out of the drawing?
Hi Mary, we are using Instagram as it allows the most people to participate and it is the easiest for most users. It also allows us to share your work! You can download an Instagram even if it is just to participate in giveaway.
I refuse to use Instagram and Facebook as a matter of principle. Mark Zuckerberg owns both. Zuckerberg is thoroughly corrupt. He routinely violates people’s privacy rights. Plus, of course, Zuckerberg allows people to post political lies and deceptive videos on Facebook. So, like Mary, I am sad I will not have a chance to win anything. However, on the brightside, I appreciate the Sewcialites Sew Along greatly.
Don’t see any instructions to download the pattern under the red block
Sorry I found it now.
I can’t wait to get started! Today’s Livestream with block demonstration was amazing, one of the best! Thank you so much!
I am looking for the background fabric used by Teresa. It says she used 1660-132, but I could only find 1660-130M, is that the same? I want to use the Zen Chic new line for my quilt.
Hi Dotte, Sorry about that! You’ll be able to find the 1660-132 Cream color on our website as soon as the Quotation yardage comes in stock in October.
