With two more blocks to go, we’re rounding the corner on Sewcialites 2. In October, we started sewing this free sampler quilt, and now, if you’ve been sewing along, you have quite the assortment of blocks completed. In just a few short weeks, we’ll be putting them all together to make a beautiful quilt! This week we’re excited to share Block #23, designed by Andy Knowlton!
This week’s block designer is Andy Knowlton (@abrightcorner) of A Bright Corner! The Changeling Star block is an elegant star design that would look good in any size! Andy is sewing with all her blue scrap fabrics and a Grunge Basic by Moda Fabrics for her 9″ version of the Changeling Star block.
Andy loves this block design because, “You can make vibrant quilts with fussy cut elements, solids and prints. It’s an easy block for beginners to make in any size. I’m crazy about this star block because I’m a huge fan of all star quilts, and I love coming up with unique star blocks! And I particularly love this one because the look of it changes depending on color and fabric placement.”
We’ve sewn the Changeling Star block with different collections in all three size options. The 3″ block is sewn with Nutmeg by BasicGrey for Moda Fabrics, the 6″ block in Dwell by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics, and the 9″ block using Cinnamon & Cream by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda Fabrics.
You can join Kimberly for a live sewing tutorial of the Changeling Star block live in the Friday Livestream on Fat Quarter Shop’s YouTube Channel.
For reference, here are the sizes that she is sewing, and her finishing pattern.
Blocks 1-8 | 9″ |
Blocks 9-16 | 6″ |
Blocks 17-24 | 3″ |
