  1. It looks like a deformed upside down bird with a heart. What it could possibly be used for, I have no idea. Pencil eraser, maybe?

  11. I cross stitch and always use Just Another Button Co. buttons which are usually noted on the project. Their pins are also fabulous …used a lot of them in various shapes on the standup Santas that I made several years ago which are constructed with various types of thread. Love switching out the pins on the various seasonal projects…snowmen…Valentine’s easels and boxes, etc.

    Fun to see how the quilting and needlework hobbies are intersecting in creative designs.

    Can’t wait for your January box to see your next project, probably spring themed with newly released sewing notions. Note: My husband misses the little FQS 2017 desktop calendar from the Nov. 2016 box. Wished you offered it for 2018.

    1. I miss the calendar too! I am with your husband Betty! It’s not to late to send one FQS, I’d be happy for one for February.

      1. Maybe FQS will offer one! Send it out in the February box fora 2 year span. My husband read my post and said that it was so easy to read etc. and to schedule our week. It was useful as opposed to the big calendars and planners.

  17. If you turn the picture sideways it looks like a cat would be on the front then the bird on the back . Something to do with Valentines Day theme? Excited In ordered a subscription fire daughter too! As she is just learning too Quilt ! Loving 2018 already ♥️♥️

  19. A cute little bird needle minder, maybe!? Looks like it is on linen or embroidery cloth, sewww maybe we will be getting a cute embroidery project to do!! I’m excited to see what goodies will accompany that cute little bird!!!

  24. $15 for a set of buttons to embellish my pin cushion? Hmm. This might be my last box. I’ve been a subscriber since day one and the first year was AWESOME! They had really useful items with a great variety and I felt like they were such a great value. I still routinely use the notions and other items from those boxes. The last 6 months or so have been “meh” except for the fabrics and patterns. Not sure they’re worth the money to me anymore. Things like these buttons and the previous clothespins just aren’t floating my boat. They’re cute, but totally useless for me. 🙁

    1. I couldn’t agree with you more. My very first box had those toy clothes pins and a greeting card. I contacted the company and complained. I don’t want toys and things that have nothing to do with sewing. No knic knacks please. The fabric is great. The little cute stuff not so much. I would be happy with a single rotary blade or an extra spool of thread.

      1. This was my first box as well. I’ve been less than impressed so far. I was so excited to start receiving boxes and so disappointed when it came. This might be my last box…

Lauren i agree the boxes from 2016 were great that’s why I signed up.lots of useful quilting supplys in those boxes.but some of the things they put in now are very cheap& cheaply made.I did enjoy lasts months box.I would like to see more rulers,& things like that no more cheap little siccors.& By now we all have pins, we all want things to do with quilting.well see I think if they get a way from the Lori Holt somethings would be better,her stuff is always on the childish side to me.these pins in this month’s box would be something that she would use

    2. I’m with you. I have no desire to embellish my pin cushion. That seems like a waste to me,I don’t spend money on anything that isn’t useful to me. I am going to be miffedand will have to opt out after being with these boxes since the beginning. But I have been on the verge for a little bit. The last couple couple of boxes got…better.. but I guess if it’s back to trinkets and stuff and less fabric, templates or patterns then there are other subscriptions out there.

      1. Last month’s box was finally decent except the “$12” calendar book. I really like the stash and store. That’s the only reason I haven’t canceled yet. Several boxes prior to last month were disappointing.

  30. Not a fan of these pins especially the price point that will take such a big chunk of the monetary value of the sampler box for something only a select few will like.

    1. I think the planner is useless also. I was confused as to why it was there but now I see they must do a calendar every year. Waste of money.

  36. I am hoping to see more useful items and fabric this year. I love getting my sew sampler box, but little things like these that cost so much..ehhh..give me a cool new ruler, square up rulers, triangles on a roll, a rotary blade, more fabric. I signed up for notions I can use and fabric … but getting less and less impressed as the months go by. Still love FQS and my sampler box, just wishing for things i can USE. 😊

      3. Just signed up (again). I’m on a fixed income and agree with your comments 100%. I would like to see “useful” items in the box. Also, less Lori Holt – after a while all her stuff just looks the same. I’m an older woman who has a house full of “stuff”. I’m looking for more useful things at this time in my life. 😉

  41. if it is pins as someone suggested for my pincushion. Bring it on. Love the little awkward bird. Really don’t use my pincushion since I received my magnetic bowl but always have one on display in my sewing room.

    1. What you call “crap” others may enjoy. While these items may not be useful to you, others may have different tastes or interests. Let’s all try to remember that when we post here.

        1. I will unsub. I did use the word crap. Which to me is just cheap stuff they use to fill the box, and yes I do think the bird is ugly. But, from reading many of the other comments I am obviously not alone.

          1. I love getting my box. It’s lije a little surprise gift. I’ve found most things useful so far, and last month I made the quilt. It’s not fabric I would normally buy, but because it was a little project, and different for me, I loved making it.

        3. No, I think the feedback that pincushion embellishments are crap help the owners. If they find that a whole bunch of people want to unsubscribe because if this stuff, they don’t want to lose the business. If you want them, just buy them from the store! I think they are ridiculous and will go right in the garbage when I get mine

    2. Vicki….I completely agree! I get so excited when I get a box that has fabric and useful notions in it. I know one woman’s trash is another woman’s stash, but lately, the notions are just taking up space and the fabric is sometimes juvenile.

      I also think that everyone is allowed to leave their respectful comments, be them negative or positive. The comments are there for that reason, and it is why this section of the blog is referred to as “Comments” and not “Praise and Good Stuff Only.” I know when I leave a comment, negative or positive, I am hoping the FQS Sew Sampler peoples are reviewing them, along with the surveys they give us, to try and make us all as happy as they can. How will they know what we like or do not like if we do not share our opinions, good or bad?

      1. Of course everyone is allowed to leave their respectful comments. But to declare definitively that an item is “crap” is DISrespectful. Imagine if someone absolutely loves that pin, and then someone else declares that the item to be crap or junk. That person who loves that pin is essentially being told that they have poor, inferior taste. This is not Facebook–this is a blog being offered by the company selling these boxes and items. Let’s try to put ourselves in other people’s shoes instead of insulting or lambasting the company or other people’s opinions. You know, The Golden Rule!

      2. Very well said… comments are for both sides, so they can read them as well. I also have been a little disappointed with the boxes lately. I’d rather have prettier fabric, for one. And though I LOVE getting a little surprise “present” to myself every month, I totally agree that there have been way too many knick-knacks. Many of us don’t have studios to decorate, so these things are just useless. I’m pretty much with many others here, and say if they don’t get better soon, I’m going to cancel. I’d rather get a nice jelly roll and pattern, than have them try to find 5 or 6 small things to put in it. I told them in my survey that sometimes one big thing is much better to receive than 5 small items. Even a new quilting book concentrating on charm squares with a pack or two of charms would be awesome! And it would only be about $40 per box, retail, but it would be something many would enjoy.

    3. I have so many useless items that I’ve been sent this past year from the sew sampler boxes. It’s very disappointing! I’d rather have rulers, rotary blades and fabric.

    1. To each is own. One person may be offended by the word crap, others may not. You may be offended by the word, others may not. I thought the fabric in the last box was fabulous, others called it crap, boring, horrible, etc. That does not diminish my love of the fabric. Nor, do I think that others think my taste is poor or inferior because I like something and they do not like it or think it is crap. We all have differences in what we like, and we are all allowed to express this here.

      But…..if you notice, your comment is the first comment on this blog post where one person personally commented on and attacked another person and his/her opinion and not the subject of the blog….the January sampler box. That is disrespectful in my opinion. So, let us all remember the Golden Rule and keep our opinions and comments, negative or positive, on the sampler box, and not on each other and our personal posts.

        1. Mandy–In no way was my comment an attack on a person. It was a request that we use language that respects others’ opinion. As a middle school teacher, I work very hard at providing guidance on how to offer constructive criticism–that is why I chose my words very, very carefully. The critique was categorically about the use of the words, not of the person. If a friend came over and commented that an item on our sewing table was crap, I hazard to guess that most of us would find that offensive. If you don’t, that’s great. I think most of us would appreciate for a more civil and polite tone. And there have been numerous comments on this and other monthly blogs that echo my comment.

          And I completely agree that we should use this blog to talk about the boxes and what we are making with them. In fact, if one were to go to last month’s blog, they would see I made that exact plea. I shared that I am making a delightful baby quilt with the Tula Pink, Farmer’s Daughter and Blueberry Park fabric from previous boxes, using the Awesome Ocean pattern. I haven’t seen any subsequent posts on how people are using the fabric (or other items) in the boxes. Would anyone else like to share?

    1. I don’t. That would make me very sad. I’m extremely allergic to wool and no one else I know does sewing, quilting, or crafting. Which would mean, for me, that a big chunk of the box would be a complete waste 😢

  47. Just looked up the pins, not super excited. The bird is the only cute thing in the pack especially for that price. Really hope I’m not disappointed in the entire box though. Sew for now still looking forward to receiving it as I’m a beginner and want to increase my notions and fabric supply.

  49. If it is pins I will be super happy! I recently saw a picture where someone used an old candle stick and put polyfill on the top and covered the poly with a crocheted cotton doily. I have wanted to make one for my sister-in-law since I saw it. Any one of those pin sets will make a nice touch! Cant wait!

  54. I would have preferred the 3 pins for $4.48 which includes a heart pin. Seems to me they’re sending something that isn’t selling.

  55. Disappointed in the pins and the possible pincushion. Too much of a chunk of the box value as well as useless for actual quilting-they look more like decorations. Not even cute decorations either. Would have rather got a bunch of pins with numbers or letters on them. Saw the previous years boxes and loved them as well as the price point. I wanted to ditch my quiltybox for this but not at this rate. 🙁

  57. Check out the blog Pretty by Hand and search pincushions and then go to the Etsy site PinksandNeedles. I have been following Pretty by Hand for years and it all started because I saw her cute pincushions with pins made by PinksandNeedles. Now those are beautiful pins (I have purchased quite a few) unlike this little bird. Pincushions don’t always have to be useful, they can just be pretty to look at on a shelf. They can bring joy. I love mine and they are only for display. They are a little bit of happiness like the Sew Sampler boxes of the first year.

    I personally have not enjoyed most of the boxes this year but I keep plugging along although that might change. It used to be so exciting every month knowing the blue box was coming, a little present to myself. That feeling left months ago. I had hoped the boxes would get better but for me they’re not. As I stated in previous posts I would love to receive items like thread, rulers, needles, low volume or background fabrics, applique, stitchery. I would prefer not to receive items I can buy at Ikea and Hobby Lobby like the sewing kit, pop up thing, and so many others. For $240 so far this year I want items I’m going to use not stuff to donate or give away. Selfish? Maybe.

    I agree these pins look like little erasers and they are half the price of the whole box…that’s sad.

  58. Can’t wait for my box! I just finished the mini quilt that came in the December box. Took it to my guild for show and tell last night and everyone loved it! Several wanted to know where they could buy the pattern – I love that the patterns we get are exclusive. A few of the guild members are now going to sign up for the sew sampler box.
    This was my third box and I have been pleased with everything so far. One month’s fabric was not totally my style but it gives me a chance to experiment with fabrics I wouldn’t buy for myself. Who knows, I may fall in love with it while piecing the project!
    And, for what it is worth, I think the little bird is darling!

    1. I made that same thing and don’t you feel a sense of accomplishment when someone asks for the patterns? I wasn’t thrilled with the fabric but it was just what this quilt needed. Thanks for your comments Linda more positive comments I would like to see.

    2. I agree completely with you. I stated in an above comment that I would rather receive one big thing vs. 5 little things that are just clutter. A charm square book and 2 charm packs are about $40 retail, but would make me happy. Throw in some thread and I’d be set. They could make a box from just a pretty jelly roll and pattern and thread, and one from just a nice ruler, a rotary blade,pattern and fabrics. I want things to use, not decorate with. Sometimes I think they are just throwing in stuff that doesn’t sell just to get rid of it!! I’ve been thinking about that more and more lately.

  59. I have made the decision to stop my subscription. I have been doing it for over a year and in the beginning, the boxes were filled with wonderful, useful items. I am leaving, due to the fact that when a holiday is approaching, I would like to see items that we can use for that holiday….but you don’t get those and if you do, it is too late to use them. I work, so quilting and sewing is my relaxation, it would have been nice to see holiday things in the month prior too the holiday, so you could make something and enjoy it, before the holiday…..

I agree with Raleysmom , quilting supplies that can be used that’s really getting your money’s wrote …rulers fabrics rotary blades needles thread numbered pins and sew Much more….I’m a little sad we were receiving 7 to 8 items and now down to 5… I rather receive items I all ways use items I run out of fast daily supplies Decembers box was OK …I’ve realized a year of box’s you’ll get 4 you really like and 4 that will have one item in each box that you’ll used and 4 box’s that make you wanna give up!! I think , but $24.94 you can’t go wrong , for now we’ll see up a head…..good for everyone to leave comments …good or bad.! Freedom of speech..

  61. Great suggestions Cindy agree a few useful items like thread rulers, pins etc. would be great to added. I see the boxes as a means to explore different patterns , fabric being away from quilting for a few years been fun seeing and trying new things so I have enjoyed the boxes

Sew sampler,I think we all would like to know if you read are comments & are going to start putting things in the monthly box that is useful for quilting.or are you just going to keep putting in small (cheap) stuff that is price way more than it should be.i think there are a lot of us that would like this to be answered thank you & I really hope you answer the million $$$question

  64. I’m into the block on the recipe card and I’m really excited about how it will go together in the long run and anything else in the box is just icing on the cake for me. I’m a quilter and I enjoy all the boxes and have used many things I have gotten in them and use the fabric in fun things and have built up my stash of fabric too. I believe that these boxes are supposed to be surprises and things you generally don’t spend money on but get to try them out. Can’t wait every month for mine. The key is to be happy with what you get. Enjoy.

Sew sampler didn’t you like the question I asked last night is that why u didn’t post my comment.with that being said I have decided that after this month box I will be going with a different company for a box that is$24.95 including shipping there videos showed u get more than what u have been sending,& it all has to do with quilting.not Nick nats

  67. This comment is for Wendy the middle school teacher. There is nothing worse than some sanctimonious lecture from someone stating that they are a teacher. You have clogged this comments field with your opinion, so now it’s my turn. The use of the word CRAP has been nowhere near as disrespectful as your sermons. Obviously there is a multi person concensus that many of the past filler items have been CRAP. So if you don’t like that word, YOU are welcome to opt out of this forum, instead of trying to impose your idea of what a forum should be.

      1. May i make a sugestion Maybe donate to a Craft group. Items you are not fussed with someone might appreciate. It. That way you do a Good deed. And feel Good about it.

  68. We all have a right to our own opinion. This is supposed to be feedback on our boxes. I don’t mind the word crap if someone chooses to use it nor do I mind Wendy’s words. I do however believe in manners which have been pushed to the wayside in this day and age. We can give our feedback without being rude…can’t we? I would miss the conversations if they cut it due to the bickering, wouldn’t you?

  69. I am going to speak for myself. I happen to love, love these boxes. It’s not a hardship on me right now. My crazy husband loves them too. It’s just the excitement of opening the box to see what is being sent, we know its a gamble but it is truly a blast for use and many other people who subscribe. My fear is this…I fear that all of this complaining may wear on Fat Quarter Shop the way it does on those of us who are extremely happy with the items, even if we don’t need the items. So for those of you who do complain please understand that everyone cannot be pleased, that you have the option of graciously cancelling your subscription and keep in mind this box brings joy to many, many addresses! ~Thanks!

  70. I’m always happy to get my Sew Sampler box each month. I will admit that there are some I’ve loved and then some not so much, but that I think is true with all of us. This is something to be expected with any subscription box. I’ve researched and watched other quilt box reveals but Sew Sampler is still the best value compared to the others where you only get some random fat quarters, a pattern and maybe something else for $15-$20 more a box.

    1. Donna, I’m with you. Constructive feedback is always a good thing. I love the boxes, what I don’t use I share with others. I have been introduced to designers, patterns notions and other products I had never seen before. I don’t have access to a lot of LQS or exhibitions or shows, so getting these little novelty items and such is a treat. The fee is my “Starbucks” money. I treat myself to these boxes and enjoy the surprise each month.

  71. I hope Fat Quarter Shop is actually reading all the comments. Sounds like the satisfaction level of long time subscribers of Sew Sampler is going down, especially after many disappointing boxes passed the first year. I was about to get a December box for a friend but I was a bit late ordering, and I was sure glad I was late when I received the Dec box. It was boring, compared to the Dec 2016 box . Will stop if the next couple of boxes doesn’t improve to my liking.

  74. I am happy for those of you who love every item but sympathize with those who are frustrated. I’ve been a subscriber since day one and I think that is what makes the last year a little bit disappointing. Perhaps my understanding of what the boxes were going to contain when signing up is wrong or has changed over time. I love to quilt, LOVE the Fat Quarter Shop, and appreciate all the time/love/sweat that goes into designing these boxes for us. Although some of the (for lack of better word) filler items are cute – they are just that… filler (example: thank you card, planner that has more pages for meal planning than projects, etc). Many of us have been begging for more things like thread, fabric, rulers, etc. Things for quilting or sewing. And if it means 3 items instead of 10, who cares. Thank you FQS shop for allowing us many different avenues for expressing our opinion and taking the time to read them!

  75. When I first joined I was pretty excited because I received some things I could really use and looked forward to future boxes. Now I’m not so sure anymore. There are only so many “table runners” a person can use or make. Sometimes the fabrics I receive are cut so that I cannot make any mistakes and we all make them. I would love to receive a bit more of a generous cut incase there is a mistake. How about placemats, hot pads, bags or totes? I actually threw away the “Thank you” card, and the planner is sitting there because its more of a calendar you can throw in your bag and not really “sewing” related. Rulers, pins, clips, thread, the little sewing kit etc. I did love the little trash can, my grandson loved it so much he uses by his bed lol.

    1. I agree with Tiffany. The pins are cute but nothing I will use. Band-aids are cute and useful but i would rather have another fat quarter. Recent boxes with empty tins, journals and sewing kitsare still sitting where I opened them.

  76. Looking forward to this box. There are some items in the boxes I didn’t like at first that have become things I use all the time. For example, the rotary case and the pop-up scrap bin. I keep a rotary cutter, scissors, and seam ripper in the case and can put them up and away from little hands super quickly. I also got a lot of use out of the blank books from the Riffle Paper Co. The Mini Planner was so specific and I already have a large one. I gave it to my daughter to doodle in when I make out my weekly plans. I don’t mind trying new notions. I am just disappointed when the fabric is not the star of the box.

  77. The one box I did like from this year even though I’m getting tired of her was the Lori Holt box from June 2017. We received two charm packs, the finishing fabrics, and the ruler to complete the enclosed pattern. That is what I would like to see more of… complete projects with thread.

    1. Agreed. That was my favorite too. A complete kit in the box. Was so excited for that one.

      1. I 100% agree that the June 2017 box is what sold me into subscribing. I also hope the boxes will be more project oriented.

  78. I think most boxes are good. A few are not that great with the Chucky Cheese box fillers. I would rather have meat and potatoes items. Blades, fabric,rulers etc. 2018 Im doing every other month.

  79. I have only gotten 4 boxes so far. I have enjoyed each of them. I have great nieces who want to learn to quilt so anything I get that I already have or not so fond of, I will pass them along to give encouragement to figure quilters.

  82. Newbie here, and this will be my first surprise box! I’m loving the sweet little bird and highly anticipating it’s arrival. For me, it’s sew fun to get pretty little tidbits that I wouldn’t typically buy for myself. Looking forward to a year of Sewie boxes!

  83. I like receiving the boxes as well it like the little kid in me can’t wait to open it. O will tell you that I haven’t been in pressed with a few boxes for myself But the stuff I don’t care for my 12 year old granddaughter is thrilled to get so I make it a point to give her something from each box and it makes it all worth it to have her sewing with me.

  84. I liked the pop up thing. It make the perfect waste catcher. It sits beside the sewing machine and it catches all the thread and snips. If I am doing a lot of snips I can set it in my lap. I don’t knock it over like I did the waste basket and I hit almost all the time. I wonder if the fat bird will be a wool mug rug in the end. I made last months little quilt and everyone that sees loves it. It wasn’t my colors,but it lets me try something I wouldn’t on my own.

  85. I would like to see prettier fabric as well. Although every box feels like an exciting gift, some of the modern colors are flat and depressing to me. Trends change so I am just enjoying the surprises and waiting for some beautiful fabric to show up!

  86. I actually hope fat quarter is ignoring theses comments. So much negativity and complaining. Nobody even knows what’s in the box but everyone already hates it? I expect this kind of comment section on YouTube, not the fat quarter shop. I love that the boxes introduce me to new products. I would be disappointed if I got thread and needles every month. What’s the fun in that? Keep up the good work.

  87. I’m excited. I like buttons and I use a pincushion or two for decorations. Certainly can’t please everyone. Fill out the surveys! And don’t post something you wouldn’t say to someone’s face. (If you trash talk to your friends and neighbors I guess you can continue). I haven’t used much of the fabric. The little tool organizer we got last month has been great. Didn’t think I’d like that seam ripper till I started using it. My quilting friends love the scissor case. I asked for small projects like mug rugs too. And you can cancel whenever you want.

  89. I joined a year ago and loved it enclosing the recipe card. Then it went to the dated basket block but I found value and liked the rest. The last two or three have had poor quality items. The snips had no way to lock so not just poor quality but dangerous.
    My reason for commenting is I went to a week long retreat before I received my nov and dec box. People loved the seam roller, magnifying light, pop up trash bins etc. so several joine and were to start with the November box. I now feel so bad not just for me but that I got others to subscribe.
    Now to be fair if prices are going up then raise the box a few dollars and keep the quality at what it was.

    1. I am not so sure there are snips that lock except to have the cover over them. I could be wrong but all of my snips are in a ready to use state. I actually liked the snips they sent us, these items are like pens, you can never have enough of them around.

  90. Hi all, I have been receiving the boxes for over a year now. I totally agree about things going from great to really bad! Also from reading all of the comments, FQS will be losing several subscribers, if they don’t stop with all the filler stuff, that is not selling. I agree with all others who would like useful items, like blades, rulers, thread, fat quarters instead of fat eights. Also patterns for things besides table runners and wall hangings. The surveys are useless, unless the FQS will actually start doing what we ask of them. I enjoy the element of surprise, if it’s great to receive the actual item(s). I really hope this months box is a pleasant surprise, if not I will follow suit with all of the others and spend my money elsewhere!

  91. After reading all the comments I thought I would share that I started quilting about two years ago. So some items were VERY useful for me as I didn’t have much of the basics to begin with.

    I enjoy the fabric more than anything. Even when I don’t personally like it I still either use it or pass it on.

    Many have already said that the basic notions are preferred and I would agree with that. But it is sometimes helpful to get something I haven’t used before or don’t know how to use. Or maybe that is an upgrade from what I have from sewing before I started quilting.

    My favorite box was the one that literally gave us everything we needed to make a quilt. That was awesome. I do like getting the patterns.

    Haven’t found anything as good as sew sampler boxes for quilting subscriptions so probably going to continue my boxes for a while.

    I am over a year long member now …

  104. This was definitely the worst box! I finally cancelled my subscription this month. I have fabric from these sew sampler boxes that I have NO idea what I will do with them. I am not kid, I don’t have kid, I am not grandma either. What I gonna do these girly kids fabrics! Wait, its not only fabrics… I only liked the less 5 dollars ruler! What I gonna do bandages? Needle carry card? If I need it I can make it like 5mins! the pattern is every month disappoint patterns. Its seems like same pattern I seen it! Just squatter block and little snowball it. I am sick of it and I wrote the survey after I get the box but obviously they don’t listen and nor fix.

  106. The box this month is super cute. I do enjoy Lori Holt fabric – who wouldn’t want a little happy cheer during the winter months? I also liked the reproduction fabrics last month – maybe I just like trying new things. I plan to make the pattern for my daughter (20 years) who is away at college. I am also super excited about the mini ruler. I needed one of those for the Long Time Gone pattern I am working on now. Those pieces are so small! Sometimes I am disappointed there is not more fabric, but I think the last few boxes have been worth the value I paid. I like that FQS offers the bundles for finishing the projects now. This makes it easier to complete the project if I like the pattern – which is always well written and easy to understand. I don’t think we should discount the price of these patterns each month. Good patterns can be pricey and I have never had an issue with FQS directions. 🙂

  108. First, I’d like to say thank you FQS for putting together a box that you thought was good. I enjoyed it. I want to say to all of you who posted your negative thoughts on being unhappy with your subscription- you know what to do. Unsubscribe. It is as simple as that.

    I’m wondering if anyone thought about this. Do you think that maybe FQS depends on venders who’d like to advertise their wares to donate or charge FQS a minimal fee to put these items in their monthly boxes?

    I also think that many are jumping on the band wagon, if one person voices their negative thoughts others hop on board.

    So try the “adulting “ method, accept the box you were sent and cancel future subscriptions. It’s a very simple fix! You’d be surprised at how good you’ll feel when you add a little gratitude in your life.

  109. I have been a fan of the boxes since the the first one except for 3or 4 items. The fabric choices as I pointed out in the surveys are same color palette too many times…and Lori Holt is overly used.

    Note: the prices on the “Sew Sampler” insert with the product listing are NOT the same as listed on the FQS website except for the Lori Holt recipe card. Don’t know about the pattern since it is a Sew Sampler exclusive. I have never compared the prices before this box. The 10″ stacker is listed on the insert as $19.98 MSRP, and FQS sells it for $17.98 on their website. The items in this month’s box based on the FQS website prices is $48.78 plus the cost of the pattern which is a good value for the box. The price[MSRP] product listing insert in the February box is $63.29 which includes the price for the pattern.

    The main problem that I have.. do I want to spend $25.98 on the finishing kit plus backing 3 3/8 yds. of C6940-white at $10.75 a yard? FQS included a 10% off Riley Blake fabrics which would help. I have used their included coupons in the past to finish other box projects.

    Note: could not believe that the Needle Carrycard is listed at $8.00, and the Holt Bandages are listed for $6.95 which totals $14.95. The Flitter Finishing Kit is $25.98…so deduct $14.95 and $11.03 is left. Delete some other items in this month’s box, and the finishing kit could be included.

    Would like future boxes to include the finishing kit as FQS did in the June 2017 box.

  110. I like this box. Cute ideas. Actually used the bandage today after squashing my finger when closing a window. (My quilting is done in a finished shed outside of the home, so the bandage came just in time!). Rulers are always good and probably the needle carrier too. The pins are cute, but not something I would buy at that price. The fabric looks good, though I have not opened it. I still think last month’s box was the best!

  115. Wow! Just cancelled my subscription, sadly! I opened the box and was completely disappointed. The only thing I liked was the fabric. I agree with a comment about including the finishing kit instead of all the high priced filler items. Thank you FQS, I did enjoy all the boxes from the first year and would have liked to give myself a gift every month but the items in the last few boxes were just not to my liking. If I have to give the items in the boxes away to someone else, I might as well not continue, right!
    I would only end up keeping the fabric from this box, and don’t care for the rest!!! Was really hoping this box would be better than the last and that I don’t have to cancel.

  116. Loved this box!!!! This might be my favorite fabric yet. The pattern is super cute too. I plan to make the lap quilt, but I think I will use a different solid background fabric. Believe one can never have too many rulers, so thanks for this one. I also liked the needle card (maybe next month we will get some needles!). The pins? Not sure what I’ll do with them, but they are cute. And the bandaids will be used, but they are expensive! I really enjoyed this box moreso than the last 2 or 3. Excited to start on my next quilt! Sadly, more Lori Holt fabric (enough already!) and a lot of fill items. Receiving this box every month has become a high point for me. This month, not so much. I’m not promoting negativity, but I do support an honest opinion.

  119. I’m leaving this review for anyone who may be interested in subscribing to the Sew Sampler Box. This was my first foray into subscriptions boxes and I could hardly wait for it to come! I was certain FQS would take note of the many positive and negative comments that are posted in the various places online and include more useful, quality non-filler items. You know, really start the New Year out with a bang!

    The box came squished and everything that was paper or card stock was crumpled, which isn’t really FQS’s fault, although it could’ve been shipped inside another box or via a different shipping method. The items are still useable though.

    It’s ridiculous to expect everyone to be happy all of the time, but taking feedback from your customers and making changes makes for happy customers and good business. While all the items in the box are darling and fun, I would normally only buy the $5 ruler. The only way I’d use the fabric is if I didn’t have to spend more money on the rest of the fabric needed to make the quilt pattern that came in the box. A 10% off coupon isn’t worth much for big brand fabric since you can usually find fabric 10% less by looking around a little online. Based on what I’ve read online, the majority of people continue to subscribe because the boxes have been great in the past. Plus nothing keeps those of us who like a good surprise hooked like the potential for something awesome. Hence, I’m not sure if I’m going to cancel or not since I really wanted this to be fun and provide some sewing supplies I didn’t know I needed. I may give it one more month but I’ve started researching other sampler boxes in hopes of finding subscription that is more useful, higher quality and more diversely curated.   121. Received my very first box and was so excited until….I got a box of bandaids…..really!?! I do think the fabric is cute, as are the little “thingys” they put in the box but I would have rather of had the rest of the fabric to finish the project! Now I have to spend another $25 to get the coordinating fabrics to even make the quilt.
    I am willing to try it one more month, then I will take my money and buy myself something pretty.

    1. I don’t know about whole projects being in the boxes. The description of Sampler boxes says there is a theme for each box, says nothing about complete kit. If I don’t use the fabric given, it goes in stash. I probably would’t buy Some of the notions because of cost but use and love them all.

      1. I also add the fabric to my stash if I don’t want to make the pattern in the box… with this month, I am going to use the pattern…but I will use fabric from my stash for the background and the sashing…no need to buy the finishing kit–it is just blue fabric and can use white instead of dots

  122. As with anything else in life, people are entitled to the respectful expression of their opinions. It has been noted frequently in these threads that it is impossible to please everyone all the time. That being said, it seems that those who express displeasure in this or other month’s boxes have a couple of things in common: they are tired of filler items that have little to no relation to the actual craft of sewing (i.e., Band-Aids, cell phone accessories, greeting cards, trinkets, etc.) or they wish for more variety in the theme/colors/designers of the fabric selections included. I confess that, after a year receiving boxes, I have lately come to feel this myself more often than not.

    At the risk of this post being disregarded as “just another complaint,” I have a suggestion. FQS maintains a very active Facebook page that is frequently updated with enticing new collections. I would love to see the likes, shares, and comments on social media act as a gauge for what people may enjoy receiving in future boxes. Some of the fabric lines and designers out there have beautiful offerings, yet never seem to be included in the Sew Samplers despite folks sharing the love online. I also agree with several other comments noting that a small number of bigger-ticket items would be preferable (and often more useful) than multiple fillers. As the old saying goes, less is often more.

    Received my box yesterday and it was an improvement over the last several. I personally thought the bandages were cute, they’re a change from Sponge Bob and the like. I actually bought some other sewing themed bandages from my quilt shop a couple months ago. I’m glad there was a ruler and I actually liked the pattern this month, the butterfly represents my kind of cancer. The fabric although cute is the same old colors of this past year and I could have done without the $12 eraser looking pins.

    It’s coming to the end of my 2nd year of sew sampler and I’m conflicted on what to do. Yes this box was better than the last six boxes (for me) but do I want to continue with the prospect of only getting one good box every six months? Not sure, but until I am I will continue to be hopeful and keep giving my feedback.

    Looking forward to reading all of you when the reveal blog comes out.

  124. I am puzzled by all the comments that we are receiving the same colors of fabric each month. This is my fourth box and the fabric has been very different. Tula Pink, Kim Diehl, Leila Boutique (spelling?) and now from Riley Blake designs. All very different in my opinion. That is one of the reasons I enjoy this box – the chance to see and use different fabrics, especially ones I wouldn’t normally purchase.
    So, for now, I am thoroughly enjoying the boxes. I hope those of you that are disappointed will find a nice surprise with the next box!

  128. I had to take a break from my Sew Sampler subscription box while paying off some debt and I am back with this month’s box. Oh my gosh! What cuteness! Just what I needed on a dreary day. I love the fabric! The pins and bandaids are cute- I would never buy these items, but I am so glad they are in the kit for that reason. I am too practical (ok, cheap) to buy these things, but my whimscal heart smiles at that fat little bird on the pin! I need to make a cupcake pin cushion to stick him into! Thank you!
