Pumpkins & Panels & Projects, Oh My!

Get ready to fall in love with panels: our secret ingredient for holiday decorating and crafting! With fall weather at our doorsteps and Halloween lurking just around the corner, we’ve rustled up some cute panel projects for you to try with the panel that comes in the Hey Boo Fat Quarter Bundle by Lella Boutique for Moda Fabrics. Take a look through your stash and get inspired to put together a panel project today!

1. Framed Squares

This 10-minute craft is a ghoulishly great way to conjure up cute decor in a flash! To make these spooky and cute frame squares, all you need is a block from a panel, a piece of sticky board cut down to size, and the Lori Holt 9″ x 9″ Vintage Wooden Board.

Simply pick your favorite designs on the panel, cut them out, attach them to the sticky board, and slot them into the frame! Now you have festive and interchangeable decor to display year-round.

2. Quilted Pillows

Another quick craft is turning a panel into a collection of quilted pillows. For these cuties, we attached the panel pieces to a fusible fleece and quilted the two layers together. Then, we made an envelope back for the pillows and stuffed them with Poly-Fil. We even have a video on the Fat Quarter Shop YouTube channel called How to Make an Envelope Back for a Throw Pillow that will teach you everything you need to know to create this cozy craft.

By making your pillow with an envelope back, you can remove the stuffing at the end of the season for easier storage and re-use it for the next set of panel pillows that you make!

3. Add a Block to Anything!

No, really! Grab a few of your friends, bring clothes, pillows, totes, or anything else you can conjure up, and have a frightfully fun panel party! For our panel, we picked out a few of the designs and added them to tee shirts, a tote bag from our local craft store, and a button-up. For a couple of the projects, we even added sashing and corner squares to a block for a little extra touch of quilty goodness.

To learn how we attached the panel blocks, head on over to our Instagram account and check out our Reel on How To Attach Quilt Blocks to Clothes. If you want to add a block to a piece with more stretch than a tee shirt, we suggest using Fusible Ultra Lightweight Interfacing to help keep things square while you’re sewing!
