After our stay with Lori Holt last month, we took a trip to the Utah Valley to hang out with our good friend and treasured quilter, Natalia Bonner of Piece N Quilt. We had a chat (and plenty of laughs), took a tour of her home studio, watched her quilt on her longarm and learned how to make a baby burp cloth. Needless to say, it was a long day but it was as fun as can be! We added some great videos to our Fat Quarter Shop YouTube channel and would love to show them to you!
We sat down with Natalia once we arrived for a nice, long chat. We asked about how she began her business, her affiliation with Moda Bake Shop, her book (and upcoming book!) and we showed off many of the quilts in her studio. We just love her! She is a very talented quilter and very fun to chat with!
Next, she taught us how to make a quick and easy baby burp cloth using scraps of fabric and a cloth diaper. This project is fast and fun, and as an added bonus it makes charming, personalizable gifts for new mothers! If you decide to make this project, be sure to post it on our Facebook page for us all to see!
If you ever find yourself sending a quilt to be quilted with no idea what to request, here are some common designs and programs used by Natalia. She walked us through the process of free motion and computer programmed quilting on her Gammill Longarm Quilting Machine. Her motions are artistic and soothing. If you are feeling particularly stressed, we suggest watching this video as a way to relax!
