To celebrate Christmas in July we’re giving you a free pattern and video series called Merry Mini Quilt. It’s a good time to start something for the holidays. And… it’s a MYSTERY!
Each week in July we will release one video tutorial with a FREE pattern with a little help from our quilty friends. We won’t reveal the look of the quilt beforehand. That’s a secret!
We have a great group of quilt designers joining us for this event!
Mother/daughter duo Sherri and Chelsi have joined in the fun. These Moda Designers are always cooking up something noteworthy on their blogs with fun projects and tutorials.

About the Pattern
The wall hanging or table topper finishes at 33.5” squared. A Layer Cake is the perfect pre-cut to start with.
We made our super secret sample with Snow Day by Stacy Iest Hsu, but you can sew yours in any collection. It doesn’t have to be Christmas fabric at all! We recommend the Creative Grids Perfect 10 Ruler, made for cutting Layer Cakes.

I would like to learn to make a small quilt before I start a large quilt.
This is a good starter one since it only has 4 blocks 🙂 You should make sure you can sew an accurate 1/4″ seam for best results. Let us know how it goes!
I’m excited to see the patterns and sew along with this if I can squeeze it in with other projects. However, I’m somewhat confused by the fabric requirements. Why would you need 2.5 yards backing when the finished mini quilt is less than 1 yard square?
I also don’t see any binding material requirement. Will 0.5 yard of the backing be used as the binding? I’m just trying to select fabrics ahead of time. Maybe it will become clearer as the pattern is released.
I see the binding material requirement now.
1.15 yards would be sufficient for the backing.
Amanda, thanks for your feedback! We adjusted the backing amount on the document.
So looking forward to this! I always try to sew a Christmas in July project so this is perfect…plus a mystery. I ordered my Snow Day Layer Cake yesterday so I will be ready to go:)
Thank you for providing such awesome projects for us. I live on an island and need the outside inspiration. When I go to your Fat Quarter Shop online I feel reconnected to the quilting and Cross stitch world. I am 3 hours from the mainland and 4 hours from a quilt shop with items new to the market…so HUGS! Sincere THANKS:)
I can’t wait. Sounds like fun and inspirational.😀
are the blogs live ? I don’t see a start time.
Yes, they’re live now. It’s live each Tuesday at 9 am. This is the first one https://www.aquiltinglife.com/2019/07/merry-mini-quilt-christmas-quilt-along.html/
I have Christmas fat quarters. How many do u need? Can u use fat quarters? Thanks
Suzanne, you can definitely use fat quarters! That’s what Pat Sloan is using for hers.
Sounds fun. Good way to use a layer cake. Have several.
Do you need special rulers? Thank you….looks like fun.
No special rulers for this one

What are all the Triangles on a Roll sizes used in all four videos?
I am unable to find the finishing instructions for the Merry Mini Sew Along. Where do I go?
Go to the first page of the blog. The link is above Kimberly’s video about the finishing instructions.
Kimberly,
I do appreciate all the gals that were involved in designing these blocks and I am going to make several of these; a couple for two of my sisters and then some for friends as well as us—-won’t my hubby be surprised. Some are going to be traditional Christmas colors and the others will be done in blues. I am excited about this quilt!! xoxoxo
So glad you like it! Happy quilting 🙂
