An avid quilter, Kimberly began Fat Quarter Shop as a side business in 2003 while still working in a corporate position, cutting, packing and shipping right out of her house during evenings and weekends. From the very beginning she was committed to delivering top-notch service for every single order and customer, and though the company has grown that commitment to service and customer service has never wavered.
Attention to detail and caring deeply about the project at hand – whether it’s a small block or a large quilt – is what makes Kimberly such a wonderful quilter. A self-described type A, Kimberly is a big fan of careful cutting and stitching and uses a LOT of starch when making her blocks. She also loves thread, buttons, and Chick-fil-A. 🙂
The Inspiration for Kimberly’s Sew Splendid Block
Kimberly’s block is called Family Stars. She drew inspiration from her love for her four children. Kimberly is represented by the red star in the center, and the four stars in the corners – the anchors of her world – are each of her children. The pink star represents her daughter, Emma, and the three blue stars represent sons William, Peyton, and Christopher.

Love the block pattern and your inspiration. What fabric line did you use? I am trying to remake a star quilt and the light blue fabric etc is perfect.

I love your family block. I have 4 sons who blessed us with 10 grandchildren. I have made 25th anniversary quilts for 2. One son is marrying in a couple of months, so it will be yours and mine. I wanted to thank you for your block!???? and the fact that I have place a few orders with your company and find out very efficient. I commend you on your business as that me and my husband owned and operated an independent drugstore for 26 years. Raised our kids with it, had some storage funds with it and then after my husband took a flu shot and developed auto -immune Diabetes we finally decided to lay it aside and concentrate on each other, as all our children were grown and leaving. So your family stars block fit my family perfect. Me -center, with my daughter, two sons and husband supporting me as we go along. This has been extremely interesting following this beautiful Sampler…and happy you're in it too! Blessings in your future endeavors!????????
