Join Moda’s Log Cabin Quilt Along

Moda is kicking off the 2021 New Year with a weekend full of sewing. Prep your sewing room for 4 days of Moda’s Log Cabin Quilt Along! We’re so excited to sew along and get to building a beautiful log cabin project. You can participate by sewing up a quilt, wallhanging, tablerunner, pillow or anything else your creative mind thinks of. Just use the log cabin style and get to work. Did you know that Courthouse Steps is also a Log Cabin? There are many variations on a theme.

Moda’s Log Cabin Quilt Along begins this Thursday, December 31, and continues through January 3. It’s all about ending the year sewing, and you can sew with any fabric you like using any pattern you like. Or you can improvise!

If you need ideas, check out Kimberly’s recent log cabin projects. Kimberly challenged herself to sew up a Log Cabin Quilt using only leftover quilt scraps in 2020. To recreate Kimberly’s quilt, use It’s Sew Emma’s 6″ Log Cabin Foundation Papers and the Quilt Size Guide for 6″ and 12″ Log Cabin and Pineapple Foundation Paper Piecing Pads.

First time using Log Cabin Foundation Papers? You can get started with some scraps, a Jelly Roll for the 12″ Log Cabin Foundation Papers or a Honey Bun for the 6″ Log Cabin Foundation Papers. Kimberly filmed a free video tutorial to show you how to use these papers for accurate and easy log cabin blocks.

If you are reading via email, please click here to watch the video.

If you’d like to do something different, check out Moda’s blog for more pattern recommendations. After the quilt along, the fun doesn’t stop! Kimberly will be joining Lori Holt for another quilt along that uses with Log Cabin blocks, Courthouse Steps blocks and more called the Best Friends Quilt Along. We hope Kimberly’s Best Friends Quilt Along blocks provide you with lots of inspiration for this 4-day Quilt Along!

  1. This is going to be so much fun! I love the log cabin, courthouse steps & pineapple foundation paper by @itssewemma. Lori’s foundation paper is great. The square in a square paper makes it so much easier to make these blocks that are deceptively easy looking. All FQS products are awesome.

  2. I can’t wait. I got the foundation paper from my husband for Christmas. Let the adventure begin.

  3. I just ordered my paper so I won’t be sewing with the sew along obviously, but it inspired me to start this year! My first quilt blocks, (after crazy quilting) was the log cabin back in 1976 when I was just 18 years old. I used red, white and blue and I loved those blocks. Unfortunately somewhere along the way, I lost those blocks and am looking forward to another! I may just use red, white and blue again!

  4. I’m making 6″ pineapple blocks right now using the foundation papers that I just received from you all. They are turning out great so far!

  5. It has been sew much fun sewing along. I think this is only my 3rd Log Cabin project. My other 2 aren’t quilted yet but this one I am going to quilt right away.Well after my 2 quilts for my MIL.One is close to finished. My new goal for the New Year.
