Happy Monday, quilters! We have a special treat for you! At Fat Quarter Shop, we always have so much to do, so quick and fast quilts rule the day. We decided to create our new Shortcut Quilts Series to feature quilts that are quick to piece and make good use of fabric pre-cuts. We’re kicking it off with 2 ½” strips. Introducing Jelly Roll Jam, the first quilt in our Shortcut Quilts Series!
This free downloadable quilt pattern is quick and easy to complete. Each baby quilt uses just half of a Jelly Roll!
Did you notice our new Fat Quarter Shop Sewing Studio? Let us know what you think of the studio after watching the video! |
The quilt Kimberly makes in the video uses the charming Scrumptious collection by Bonnie & Camille for Moda Fabrics, but there are plenty of great collections choose from! And lucky for you, we had some wonderful helpers from around the bloggerverse help us try out Jelly Roll Jam using a wide range of fabrics. Hop around and see the different versions of Jelly Roll Jam, and let them know how much you love their quilt!

Loved the video. Cute quick quilt! I'm looking forward to the whole series.
Podunkpretties Don't worry, we will soon have a Shortcut Quilts pattern for Layer Cakes!
Neat Kimberly. Nice to have a quick easy quilt to do. Thanks

Fast, easy quilt from Layer Cakes precuts is the Anita's Arrowhead pattern. Try it and you will be hooked.
I love all the differnt jelly roll jam quilts, the pattern is great!
I would love to see a honeycomb quilt because there're not so many patterns for those out there.

Very nice tutorial. I am excited to teach this one to my granddaughter.
Super cute design pattern for jelly rolls. Looks like a fast, fun and easy project. And, I love that you included precision sewing tips in the video too! Love your sewing studio too.
I'm actually looking for ideas for charm squares, so I am looking forward to what you might come up with for ideas. I'm sure what ever you create next will be wonderful.
Great job!

Layer cakes and charm squares since I can't stop "collecting" them 🙂
Great video! I'll have to try starching.
Super video! I think Giggles would look great, but since babies like to see contrasts, I think also Barcelona would be fabulous!
Very cute! I loved seeing all the possibilities with such a simple pattern.
That looks really fun, especially for a beginning quilter! Thanks!
This will be a fun quilt to get me back in the grove. I have pieced a quilt or quilted in years, but the size and ease of this one will help me get started again.
Great quilt and video! Would like to see it in Glamping by Moda.
I love that and great tips! Thanks
The studio is great, Kimberly was great. I'm jealous of the cutting/layout table. Also the Juki. I've been doing research on the Juki since I watched the video. One more thing, whoever was recording the video did a wonderful job. Loved the close ups and (I'm not sure what it's called, but) the way we were shown the process and then the quick transition to the next stage.
Very nice, thank you.
I would love to see some designs with those darling 2 1/2 " pieces.
Love the new studio. Very envious of your work table! The audio seems to be better in this studio although the voice is sometimes loud and sometimes soft, but maybe that's the fault of my computer? I don't know. Anyway, love this quilt and thanks for the free pattern and especially for the tip about the creased area of the jelly roll strip. I haven't worked with them yet and would not have known that tip.
Love the quilt it would make a quick and easy baby quilt. I would love a quick pattern for charm squares as I have quite a few of them.
Thank you. I notice there are not many comments about the Studio. I think it is gorgeous. So light with lots of storage space. Question – do you do all your sewing standing up or just the tutorials?
Great video and what a fun pattern! Love seeing all of the quilts in the different lines of fabrics!
Love this Kim-I might have to reopen my blob g for quilts. This is such a fun way to use a Jelly Roll 🙂 Have to say I went Quilt hopping this weekend for the first time, and I missed that a lot of shops don't have jelly rolls or only have a few pre-cuts. I always order from your shop and will be getting scrumptious by Bonnie and Camille to do this quilt. thanks for the tutorial and free pattern. You Rock!!
The post for Michelle of Quilting Gallery links goes back to the Fat Quarter Shop-When it is relinked, please let me know. Everyone did a fabulous job! loved looking at the different fabrics
Thanks for the nice savings on jelly rolls; I purchased Honeysweet by Fig Tree which I have wanted for awhile to make Rolling Stones. However, I will also love watching for your shortcut series, and this pattern will definitely be used with one of my jelly rolls in waiting. I have all the blocks done for Deck-Ade-Halls using the Aspen Frost fabrics. I loved, loved, loved watching the videos and working through the patterns with you.
So if I get one of the Junior Jelly Rolls or Rolie Polies, (20 strips ea) that should be sufficient to make one baby quilt with this pattern?
Hello Everyone! So happy to have you watching. We sew standing up for tutorials, but usually sew sitting down!
Also, the Junior Jelly Roll will work for one baby quilt!
I have never quilted before, but love sewing and have always wanted to try. Is that a tutorial on how to finish a quilt? Once the top is done, I wouldn't know how to attach the back and backing. Thanks!
I love this! Thank you for the great tutorial too! I am interested in making this quilt, but in a larger size. Do you have any hints, tips for modifying the pattern?
Such a pretty quilt. I purchased the Scrumptious jelly roll, and now I'm buying the binding and backing yardage in Scrumptious, but can't decide which fabric to choose.39
Your sewing studio is awesome! I'm painting mine in Cat's Meow Pink! Looks like the same color! I made have to borrow some of your other ideas…
Most delightful quilt ever. So easy and so very quick, my style of sewing
I just stumbled onto your video looking for an easy baby quilt idea. My first quilt ever! The quilts hanging behind you…can you tell me what fabric was used for the orange and green one? I'm really crushing on that color combo!
And thank you so much for teaching me.
