Holly Jolly Bar Quilt Along - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

Holly Jolly Bar Quilt Along

Get ready for the merriest quilt along as we celebrate the release of our first Christmas Jolly Bar Book with the Holly Jolly Bar Quilt Along! With twenty quilts to choose from, we have handpicked twelve blocks to make the ultimate Christmas Sampler using the Jolly Bar 5” x 10” precut. The fun doesn’t stop there as we have also incorporated three more blocks to create a beautiful pieced backing. Join us for six weeks of festive sewing that will truly bring the joy of the season to life.

Fabric Requirements

Kimberly will be sewing with Home Town Holiday Jolly Bars which y’all sold out so quickly– we love seeing this kind of enthusiasm for a precut! While we will not be able to re-order Jolly Bars in the Home Town Holiday collection, you can pick up two Home Town Holiday Layer Cakes and cut them down to 5″ x 10″ while supplies last.

The Holly Jolly Quilt Along is designed to be made with any Jolly Bar! When you visit the Holly Jolly Quilt Along Page, we have some suggestions for festive Jolly Bars to use with the pattern, but the rooftops are the limit! We can’t wait to see what fabrics you pick!

Quilt Along Schedule

The Holly Jolly Quilt Along will be running for six weeks starting September 11th through October 16th. We’re sharing our progress over on our social media accounts each Wednesday so be sure to follow us to stay up to date. Our favorite part of these Quilt Alongs is seeing your progress so be sure to share your updates online and use the hashtag #HollyJollyBarQAL so we can see it!

Each week, we will be releasing a free PDF download on the Holly Jolly Quilt Along Page that will tell you which blocks to make, what page of the Christmas Jolly Bar Book to find them, and their cutting instructions.

To participate in the Holly Jolly Quilt Along, all you have to do is grab your copy of the Christmas Jolly Bar Book, gather your supplies, and download the week’s free PDF to see what you’re sewing.

As a special treat for all of our blog readers, we made you these darling downloadable Holly Jolly Quilt Along schedules and fabric requirement graphics! Right-click to download them and then print them out or save them to a device to refer back to as you’re quilting along.

  1. I’m thinking about joining this, but I have a few questions! When I look at the quilt top I see LOTS of colors, which color is Accent 1 and which color is Accent 2? If I don’t do the pieced backing, how many yards of fabric would I need for the backing? In addition, how many Jolly Bars would I need, if I don’t do the pieced backing? Not new to quilting, been doing it for years; just new to joining a group!

    1. Accent 1 (we used red) is used for the bows on the Bow-tiful Block and the Yuletide Block and Accent 2 (we used grey) is used for the tree trunk on the Festive Forest Block, the ornament hanger on the Tinsel & Baubles Block and the tree trunk on the Christmas Forest Block.

If you don’t want to do pieced backing you will need 5 yards of backing fabric but will still need 3 Jolly Bars for the quilt top. If you doesn’t want to do pieced backing, you also don’t need these two other fabrics listed on the fab requirements page: 1.) 2 yards for Pieced Backing Background 2.) 4 5/8 yards Pieced Backing Main Print

    1. We have a Facebook group called Kimberly’s Stitch Squad where you can talk all things stitchy with fellow quilters!

  2. I bought everything because I thought Kimberly would be filming herself making these blocks…yet the 11th has passed and I see no video supporting this quilt along…am I missing something?

    1. Same here….I thought I could follow her and copy her blocks. Why I bought everything and decided to invest in this sew along. I sure hope they start showing her blocks. : )

  3. Made all the blocks for the backing of the Holly Jolly Christmas quilt. Where do I find the measurements for the background strips that go in between the blocks.
    Thank you.
