Designer Tidbits: Pat Sloan + giveaway - The Jolly Jabber Quilting Blog

Designer Tidbits: Pat Sloan + giveaway

Not too long ago Kimberly visited Pat Sloan’s radio show. The Fat Quarter Shop is now excited to welcome Pat Sloan to our side of town on the Jolly Jabber. Pat’s latest fabric collection is Simple Stitiches from P&B Textiles.

(Click here to view her show: “Guests Ann Sutton of Bunny Hill, Kimberly Jolly of Fat Quarter Shop, Sandy Klop of American Jane, Patty Young of Modkids”)

Pat & Kimberly at Spring Quilt Market

Q: What was the first seed that grew into the Simple Stitches collection?
A: I used several of my appliquΓ© quilts to inspire this line bringing my folk style flowers and colors into the mix! As it started to develop the idea for a panel and the border stripe came up show the floral and garden shapes I like to work with. Since it’s based on my appliquΓ©, Simple Stitches seemed a perfect name!

Q: What are 3 words you would choose to describe this collection?
A:
1. Warm and Comfy. (oh that’s 2 words.. wink!)
2. Home
3. Garden

Q: What single print/SKU in the collection is your favorite (can only pick one!)?
A: My favorite in the line is the stitching lines(533), thus the name “Simple Stitches”. It’s a great textured print and love that I was able to fit it in!

Q: What is your dream project using this collection?
A: I knew I’d make my Posie Wreath in this fabric. I’m dreaming of making a whig rose next and using the border print on it.

Pat Sloan’s Silly Secrets:

1. What music are you listening to right now?
Salsa

2. What is your guilty pleasure food?
Chips and dip

4. Where did you grow up and where do you call home?
I grew up in several locations, including Germany and Belguim. Now I live in Northern Virginia outside Washington DC.

6. Your biggest pet peeve?
Waiting in line!

9. What is your favorite fabric print ever (excluding your own)?
The Housewives vacumning in their heels and purls.. I adore novelty prints and when that one came out I bought 5 yds!

  1. Great fabric! I haven't listened to the interview yet. I am at our lake home and my internet speed doesn't work well for anything like that. I will have to check it out when I get back to full civilization. Thanks for the chance at the giveaway. jmniffer

  2. I haven't listened to the interview. My computer speakers are malfunctioning making listening difficult. I am sure it was great!

  3. Unfortunately, I have not listened to the interview yet. I do, however, LOVE this fabric. I already ordered some from you, and it arrived yesterday, but I definitely need more! Thanks!

  4. The fabric is lovely – gorgeous colours and beautiful designs in the panel. I would love to play with some of it.

  5. I haven't listed as I have dial up connection and would never get the hear more than a word or two at a time. The fabric is very pretty.
Maybe someday I'll get high speed internet.

  6. I have been a "Sloanie" since before going on the McCalls cruise with Pat in 2005(? )She is such a fun energetic teacher..
I try to listen to all the podcasts, but since putting our house on the market I had had precious little time to do anything for me…so I haven't heard this one..
    Love the new line…

  7. Wonderful interview. I didn't get to listen to the program, darn it, but I would LOVE to win this fabric…just gorgeous!

  8. I need to upgrade my browser so I can get the new video upgrades, then I can listen to the interviews. But I enjoyed the interview and learning more about you. I listen to celtic and oldies rock when I sew, depends on my mood;)

  9. Wonderful interview with Pat. Yes, I did listen. I learned a few things I did not even know prior to hearing the interview as well.
I have a twitter account which was created specifically to follow FQS during Quilt Market but other than that, I just don't use the account. I also do Facebook but not on a daily basis. Because I don't actively use either of those, I had no idea even though I have liked FQS on FB and have twitter that I've been missing out. I had no idea there is a special code given each Wednesday that's good until Friday for a weekly special.

I also didn't realize FQS has created a pattern company called "It's Sew Emma" so I had to go check that out. I love "Ritzy Bitsy Babies Quilt Pattern"! Very nice looking quilt.

  10. I am always late listening to the interviews… they have to wait for a day off when I can take my laptop into my sewing room and sew while I laugh at Pat's antics! Maybe I can listen Sunday, when I'll be sewing with some of her patriotic fabrics that I recently picked up.

  11. I listened to the radio show. Your talk about facebook and twitter intrigued me. Maybe one day I will join the modern world and try these!

  12. Since I have recently (last night) gotten caught up on my Pat Sloan podcasts, I have heard the interview and enjoyed it! And of course I would love to win fabric while I am waiting for my first 2011 Designer's Mystery BOM to arrive!

  13. I haven't listened yet, but I like to get some handwork and listen (a bit later as I am working when it is on). It is always fun to listen to!

  14. Shhhh – don't tell anyone, but I'm at work at the moment, so I can't listen to the podcast right now. But I will! I always love to hear the stories of what inspired a fabric line, so thank you for sharing that. (I love chips & dip too!)

  15. I didn't listen to the interview yet, hopefully I will have time for that soon.
    I just love the fabric.
By the wy I am with Pat about waiting in line!

  16. I did listen to the interview!! My fav part was hearing her say she uses facebook to answers questions like matching fabrics/solids. That is almost like having your customer service rep right on your social media page!! And I liked learning about her new quilt pattern webpage!!

  17. Haven't heard it yet — I have to wait until my laptop is fixed. I do love these colors!

  18. Haven't had a chance to listen to the show yet. But I do like the fabric – favorite colors and design.

  19. I did listen to the show, as I listen to ALL of Pat's shows, and just adore her!! I love the new line, and you were so smart for carrying it!! I did learn from listening to the show, that you can personalize each kit that is offered. I love that, if I choose to make something in a different colorway, you will help me with it. I have called the shop on occasion, and everyone I have ever spoken with is incredibly nice & helpful.

  20. I haven't listened to the interview yet (not much time, being home with my kids for the summer), but I do love that fabric!

  21. No, I guess it isn't broadcasted in the Netherlands? But I would love to win O:)

  22. I am on my way right now to listen to the poscast. Thank you for this wonderful give-away. Take care and God bless, Cory

  23. I did listen to your interview – the most fun part was hearing the voice to put with the name . . . and now I feel like I should join twitter just to get your deals!

  24. Love Pat's fabrics. Atempted to listen to the interview but alas, it won't work. Perhaps it is because I'm on dialup? Your FQS and Pat's blogs are favorites of mine. I've enjoyed each of your designer interviews.

  25. Haven't gotten to listen to your interview yet (I'm at WORK) but I will when I'm at home!!
Would Love to have some of Pat's new fabrics! I have some ideas for it already! Thanks much for the giveaway!

  27. I realized I hadn't heard the interview, so I went back to give it a listen. Unfortunately, it just stops part way through the interview with Anne Sutton. Tried several times & can't get it to work. I would like to have heard it. Thanks for the giveaway!

  45. My favorite part of this interview was the unending inspiration from this talented shopkeeper. Just amazing. I can't believe that with 4 children she has the time to get so much done. Having worked long ago in the retail world I understand "the customer is always right" philosophy. It sounds to me as though this woman knows the value of a happy customer. She has a very bright future. All my best to her.

  46. Great fabric, I didn't get to listen to the interview as our internet connection can't handle that type of thing. Sure wish it did, I miss so much. Thanks!

I also didn't realize that I probably have missed out on some of their great sales that they have from Wednesday to Fridays. I won't miss them in the future. 77. I love Pat's new line of fabric and I did listen to your interview with Pat at Quilt Market and I can't believe how much you do with such young children and that you accomplish so many things because you don't sleep much. You and Martha Stewart have that in common plus good taste:-) Thanks for a chance to win!
    esterling9 at aol dot com

  78. Yes I ahve listened to the interview. Two great gals I guess just watching the excitement on Pats face as she describes her fabrics and shows off some neat things to do with this line. I like the tote or purse the gal made for her. Using that panel for the center of a quilt is neat and looks very nice.
    Quilter000

  95. Talking about the Preview/Coming Soon section is the greatest point of the interview- Your right- it is hard to remember all the place you have to go back to so you can see the new additions at a specified time. This way- you can preview your current purchase- but plan your purchases around what is going to be available at a later date.

The TWITTER stuff was very cute! I love the Twitter and Facebook specials!!

    Edie

  104. I havent been able to listen to her radio shows in ages! oh how I miss them! (minus the i-touch internet useage at starbucks so I could order myself a birthday present from you guys…hehehehe)

  105. No. I am deaf and can't listen to any of her shows as I read lips. I am missing out so much! Such is the life for me. But, I do appreciate so much in the blogging world!

I love Kimberly's website – I am making the mystery quilt from last year (although I do love the strawberry fields one for this year too.)

  112. I have been missing out – first, I didn't know that Pat had a radio show; I'm hooked, it was great fun. I listened to the all of the inteviews. I loved learning about all of the things you do on Facebook and the specials (can't wait for Wednesday so I can check it out) and about your new patterns. Pat's fabrics are wonderful and I've always adored her patterns. She is visiting our guild in August – can't wait.

  119. Need to finish stitching the binding on a quilt and always enjoy listening to Pat. Love how we get tickled by the same things!

  120. I haven't listened to the show, but it's on my download list now. The new fabric line has some lovely prints, especially the mini patchwork print!

  121. Cos of time differences, I thought I couldn't listen to the broadcasts in the UK, but I've just discovered that there is an archive. Whooppee. I enjoyed hearing how you do so many different things to make life easy for your customers, like the coming soon pages.

Now I'm off to listen to some more shows.

  122. I have not listened to the podcast because I've been to Shipshewana, Indiana for a wonderful Quilt Festival. Just returned last night. I saw the picture of this fabric and squealed! It's really beautiful and has all my favorite colors and designs. Would love to have some of this to play.

  123. I haven't listened to the interview because we don't have a lot of bandwidth on our home internet. Maybe if there's some slow time at work…

I learn so much, and always end up visiting everyones web pages because they are all doing something interesting and I need to find out more!
I love Pat's new line, especially the panel!

  129. I just listened to the podcast ( yep, it's about time, huh?) I was interested to know that FQS will be getting lots and lots of novelty prints. Love them!! Thanks for the chance to win.
