Designer Tidbits: Lynette Anderson

As the Summer winds down, we can’t help but start gearing up for the Christmas season. Candy Cane Angels by Lynette Anderson is a warm and welcoming way to add some Christmas cheer to your home. Lynette is on the Jolly Jabber to tell you all about Candy Cane Angels, so keep reading for a closer look!

Q: Where did you find your original inspiration for Candy Cane Angels?
A:I did the design work for this collection about 10 years ago but have never felt it was the right moment to release it until now. I absolutely love how it has come together. When I work on a new collection or design of any sort I like to scribble words for the theme: angels, Christmas, holly, hearts, candy canes, snowflakes etc., and then the drawing can begin.

Q: How do you typically decorate for the holidays?
A:I go a bit overboard at Christmas with my decorating, every room has something.

Q: How do you hope to incorporate Candy Cane Angels into your holiday décor?
A:I have made a gorgeous circular table center piece for my dining room table which will set the theme in that room to perfection. I have also re worked one of my all time favourite quilts ‘Angels Are Stars’ using this fabric collection and it’s turned out so nicely, maybe I will be lucky and be able to have the quilt on my bed for December this year.

Q:What is your favorite holiday tradition?
A:Decorating my tree is my number one favourite, but as kids we used to go carol singing on Christmas Eve around the village. One of the local farmers hitched up his hay cart to a couple of his horses, we kids all climbed in the back, and off we went stopping to sing at some of the houses and enjoying hot drinks and sweet treats. I still love singing carols today as it brings back such good memories.

Q:How did you begin your career as a fabric designer?
A:Patchwork and quilting has been my passion for over 30 years, I first started drawing and working from my original designs in 1995. As my confidence grew I started to dream about designing my own fabrics and luckily for me my dream came true.

Q:What is your favorite part of the design process?
A:Seeing my drawings come together on the computer screen and knowing that in a few months I will be able to touch, cut, and stitch with fabric!

Q:What is your favorite print in the collection?
A:I think my favourite in this collection is Christmas Words (in natural, red, and brown) which has Christmassy words all over it with my little drawings in between. It’s one of those prints that can be used in any style quilt and will not date.

Q:What can we expect from Lynette Anderson Designs in the coming months?
A:There are so many exciting things on my horizon, I am so lucky to have a job that doesn’t feel like a job. I have some gorgeous new fabrics in the pipeline, a couple of books, and of course lots of lovely new patterns to go with my fabric collections. I am teaching in a variety of locations around the world. Travelling and meeting people is really a bonus for me. I have created a collection of licensed products that cross from textiles to paper craft and we are currently working on a basic range of sewing products that will be ready to launch in August when I am at the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham, UK.

Don’t you love Lynette’s warm Christmas designs? We would love to know, how do you decorate for Christmas?

  2. I love this fabric, and it goes right along with my angel theme living room.

I decorate with a different theme for each room, except bedrooms. Angels in living room, nutcrackers in dining room, gingerbread people in kitchen, and santas and elves in den.

I decorate with a walhanging in our dinning room and also put the tree, balls, stocking …I love decorate my home in christmas seasons.

  4. I've been collecting ornaments for my tree for over 30 years, so our tree is very full and eclectic. Most of our home is decorated with handmade items, either gifts or things I've made over the years.
I love this new fabric and the color palette.

  5. What wonderful fabric ~ Love, love, love it ~ Might be just what I need for my angel room ~ Each room in my house has a different theme with decorated trees to go with it ~ The angel theme is what I am working on now and that will put the finishing touch in my house! Yes, I have a tree in every room with the exception of my living room ~ it has at least three. Looking forward to this collection ~

  6. I'm not into Christmas tress like I used to be when my kids and grandkids were young and living here…but I still love to decorate for Christmas, first and most important is my Nativity, and after that is out, I hang the few Christmas wall hangings I have done and this year will have another that will be finished up. My goal is to eventually to have enough Christmas/Winter themed wall hangings and table toppers to decorate every room. AND, I'm definitely going to add as much as I can of Lynette's new collection to my meager Christmas stash. I really love this collection, like some of the others said, this is my new favorite! Hugs….

  7. I really enjoy the colors of this collection, I think it would work well in our house. My husband and I tend to decorate pretty simply, we have one of those 3ft trees that graces the kitchen table, and then toss a little garland and stockings around, but our house is pretty small too, so not much opportunity for lots of decorations to be put up. I look forward to seeing this fabric in person, thanks for sharing it!

  8. I love this collection. Where can we get the pattern for the quilt that is shown? I can't find that anywhere, only the pattern for the table topper. I want that quilt in my house for Christmas to go with my angels theme!
