Sweet as Honey by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics

Q: Tell us a little about the Sweet as Honey collection. What were you inspired by?
A:Sweet as Honey is a collection with a story. It’s a woodland themed line full of nestled deer, wildflowers and honey bees. I was inspired to create the line after exploring nature and spending a summer growing a garden that generously allowed for freshly picked flowers. It takes me to a most lovely place, where the sun is always shining, the birds fly free and the honey is extra sweet.

Q: What is your design process when beginning a new collection?
A:I love each and every part of the design process. I usually have an idea of what I want a collection to be about, then spend months snapping photos and sketching ideas. You’ll never find me without my camera (iPhone) and a sketchbook! After I feel comfortable with the amount of sketches I have, I usually jot down what I want each pattern to look like before I begin illustrating. They don’t always follow the ‘plan’, but being creative in applying color and arranging them in repeat is always my favorite part. It’s when they really come to life!

Q: What design trends are you currently exploring??
A:I’ve always been drawn to nature, so I love that woodland motifs are particularly ‘trendy’ right now. I plan to keep going on nature walks and exploring the outdoors for inspiration!

Q:What projects do you hope to see made with Sweet as Honey?
A:Oh, anything really! I’ll never get over the joy I experience when I see something made from one of my prints. I do think though, that Sweet as Honey naturally lends itself to farmer’s market bags, picnic blankets, summer hats and flowy blouses.

Q:What projects have you made using Sweet as Honey?
A:So far, we’ve made a beautiful hexagon quilt, market sling, honeycomb mug home, yoga mat or blanket strap, backpack, hexagon situpon, townie bag and a set of sweet napkins. just to name a few!

Q:How do you describe your style?
A: I most often describe my style as sweet, delicate and organic. I like to play with lots of sugary colors and sophisticated prints that can be both playful and elegant.

  1. I love that she was inspired by an overabundance of garden flowers. I was just looking out on massive amounts of snow this morning and daydreaming about last year's dahlia haul. 🙂

So much in my life is "Sweet as Honey," but I think my boys take the cake. They sincerely love & appreciate me as a mom – – there's not much sweeter than that!

  2. At the moment we are in our homes braving a nor'easter… 12" plus of snow on top of the 10" we got last week… so what's sweet as honey in my life right now? Well.. having beautiful fabrics and threads to stitch with until I'm able to get outside in the yard and play with real flowers! lol! Sweet as honey is a great line of fabric… Sunset Bee Sweet, Honey House and Bed of Daisies are my favorites in this collection…

  3. One thing that's sweet as honey to me is there are so many parks and natural areas near my home to enjoy. I love hiking, running and mountain biking. I am lucky and blessed with the beauty of nature. I love everything about this fabric collection and am keeping everything I can crossed in hopes of winning this bundle!

  4. What is sweet as honey right now about my life? My two wonderful little kids 🙂 And getting ready to move to a new house!

  5. Well it could be because of the honey from my neighbors bee hives…but its my puppy that makes me smile while hubby is away. (my puppy is 12 years old)

  6. I have a job I enjoy working in a nursery and a beautiful piece of property to live in and garden on my days off…when the weather is bad for being in the garden I have a very sweet stash of fabrics to spend my time playing with! This life for me is sweet as honey!

Congratulations, Bonnie for the launching of your latest line! I really really like the prints that are available. I would love to make a light summer blouse with it. They all look amazing!
Living in Washington, I count myself as very lucky! I am very grateful for the beautiful scenery that we have here. I love it when the birds are noisy and wake me up in the morning. I love just looking out the window and see a hummingbird (which I just saw, btw), it's so pretty here! I love going hiking with my husband, it's a great way to enjoy his company and the nature at the same time! That's my sweet (if not sweeter) as honey moments 🙂

  13. Beautiful, happy fabric! Today, my honey sweetness came from spotting a robin in the midst of the worst winter in our history! Spring is surely on its way! Thanks for the amazing giveaway… another spot of honey today!

  14. There is just something about this collection that calls to me – I love the soft colors and happy feel.

I am so grateful for so much in my life. But I am most grateful, right now, for my sister who is my best friend and sewing buddy and who I talk to every day even though we live 3000 miles apart. To me, the relationship I have with my sister could not be sweeter!!!

Thanks for the chance to win this beautiful fabric!

  18. See Psalm 19:7-11 for things that are "sweeter than honey"! "The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul. The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart. The commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring forever. The judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More are they to be desired than gold, yea than much fine gold, SWEETER THAN HONEY and the honeycomb. Moreover, by them thy servant is warned, and in keeping of them there is great reward."
I'd sure love to play with these fabrics – they are wonderful!

  26. Life got busy and I took a break from quilting for about a decade. Sweet that a request for a quilt for my grand baby got me back into quilting again. In the last 2 years I have made over 30 quilts. A hexy quilt was a must in this line of fabrics! Need a closeup of the irregular edges on that hexy quilt. Who got to do the binding? I love doing a hand sewn binding.

  27. My family – natural/church, are "sweet as honey" – my daughter and husband are so great and supportive during the time of dealing with a family health situation. My church family is there all the time for me for great support, love and fellowship.

  33. what is my current Sweet as Honey moment is when I make the quilt deliveries to the nursing homes. I love seeing those wonderful faces light up when I place a quilt in their lap. So many times our elderly are put into nursing homes and then forgotten. When I show up they are just so happy to know they are still special and that someone still cares. To date I have delivered over 100 quilts and that is a lot of sweet smiles

  34. I think most moms will say seeing their children is sweet as honey, and I agree, but my kiddies are now 29, 28 and 25. When my oldest daughter comes for a visit with her new husband and my 3 sit on the couch and laugh and chat, it just makes my heart melt!!!
I feel like I'm the luckiest mama in the world because I raised my kids to love one another!!!

In 2012 my husband had a cardiac arrest and was in a coma for 6 1/2 days and on top of that was not expected to live. I asked God for a miracle and he survived and is doing well. So the answer to my prayer and this past year and a half is "Sweet as Honey"

Scents as sweet as honey, honeysuckle and lemon blossoms…this is what all the extra work is for. All of this in February…because in March I start new dresses for the grand children.

  153. making charity quilts.here lately, instead of donating them to charity, i will ask my preacher of people in special need and deliver it to them personally. that is my sweetest thing. one thing i would like to mention that in a neighboring county, one i did live in, there was a house fire that was started from a base board heater. the only survivors were an eleven year old girl, kaylin watson and her 39 year old father chad watson. they were life flighted to vanderbilt trauma and burn unit in nashville tn. kaylin has severe burns on her face and hands. her father has no skin on his hand and is severly burned. both had a large amount of smoke in their lungs. tragically, they lost 8 members of their family, kaylin's mother and seven of her brothers and sisters ranging in age from 15 years old to 4 your old twin boys. the community and others from as far away as texas are being very generous to father and daughter. but with all the outpouring of help, such as one company is building them a new house, a funeral home donated 8 caskets and burial plots, another person is paying for travel and motel expenses for anyone wanting to go visit them in the hospital. i think it would be great if quilters would donate a quilt to each of kaylin and her father. i dont have a link to guide you to, but it was in depoy kentucky in muhlenberg county. i honestly cannot think of anyone else more deserving of a love quilt. if i had fabric, i would certainly make one myself. babscorbitt@gmail.com

When you have a job or a child, you all know that any time you get to spend doing what you love is golden and that much more pleasurable. Having a small child and a crammed schedule, my husband tries to make time for me to do these things when he has time off work- taking our son out for a while or opting to order in food so that I can spend a little time creating. He is "just as sweet as honey" and I appreciate every free minute he tries to make for me, even if I do have to ditch the laundry or dishes. It means the world to me! And he knows how important it is for me to express my creativity and relax.
