Get ready, get set, get hooked onto crocheting! We are so excited to be carrying Lori Holt’s (of Bee in my Bonnet) crochet supplies and we recently visited Lori’s Cozy Cottage in Salt Lake City to film a couple of beginner crochet tutorials with her! She showed us how to make granny squares, block each square, and then turn the entire thing into a functional pincushion!

Materials
Here’s what you’ll need to make the granny squares:
- 5 colors of Chunky Crochet Thread
- 3.5 mm crochet hook
What you’ll need to block the squares to get them the same size:
- Rustproof Blocking Pretty Pins (you will need rust proof pins as you will be spraying them with water)
- Spray bottle of water
- Blocking Board
What you’ll need to turn the blocked granny squares into 4 1/2″ pincushions:
- 4 1/2″ ruler square ruler
- Solid fabric (Lori used Confetti Cottons by Riley Blake Fabrics because they coordinate with her Chunky Crochet Thread)
- Pincushion stuffing

Go from thread to Granny Square as Lori teaches you how to make this signature crochet block step by step (see the full video tutorial HERE)! Be sure to check out all the colors of Lori’s Chunky Crochet Thread to make your own version of the Granny Square block.
How to Block Crochet
Even out the size of your newly finished Granny Squares with (see the full video tutorial HERE)! It’s very simple and all you need is some pins, a spray bottle filled with water, a blocking board, and time!
How to make a Crochet Pincushion
Turn your Granny Squares into a finished and functional project with the crochet pincushion (see the full video tutorial HERE)! You can make the pincushion by hand by using two 4 1/2″ squares of solid fabric and stuffing with polyester fiberfill. For the solid fabric Lori used Confetti Cottons by Riley Blake Fabrics because they match her Chunky Crochet Thread perfectly! This pincushion is great for storing your Lori Holt Pretty Pins!
