We’re back with another pattern in our Classic & Vintage series, the Nine Patch Star Quilt Block! In our Classic & Vintage series, we focus on traditional quilt blocks and add a modern twist! The nine patch, one of quilting’s oldest blocks, lends itself to so many variations due to its simplicity. Here, we’ve spruced it up with half square triangles to give it a new look.
The Nine Patch Star quilt block is available to use as a free download. You can use it in projects large and small, from quilts to table runners. Kimberly made her Nine Patch Star quilt using Sunnyside Up by Corey Yoder for Moda Fabrics. The fun florals and sun-kissed colors really brighten up a room.
Our complete Nine Patch Star quilt pattern with four quilt size options is available for purchase at fatquartershop.com. To make a quilt just like ours, we have the Nine Patch Star Quilt Kit and Backing Set available!
If you’re ready to sew along with us, download your FREE Nine Patch Star block pattern and watch Kimberly’s video tutorial for a step-by-step guide on making your block! She uses Triangles on a Roll to batch out her half square triangle making.

Nine Patch Star Quilt in A Day in Paris
Quilty staffer, Denise, made the crib size of the quilt using A Day in Paris (fabric will be out in April 2019) for a modern look. Gina Tell of Thread Graffiti did the longarm quilting, and it turned out beautifully.
We hope you enjoy quilting your own Nine Patch Star Classic and Vintage quilt and please share your work using the #NinePatchStarQuilt hashtag. Happy Quilting!
