Book of the Month November 2013: A Cut Above – Giveaway Closed

It’s time again for a new Book of the Month! Gerri Robinson of Planted Seed Designs is here today to tell you a little bit about our November Book of the Month, A Cut Above, so sit back and read on for a closer look! And don’t forget, the Book of the Month is 20% off all month!

Thank you Kimberly for the opportunity to share some tidbits on A Cut Above. A Cut Above is my first published book with Martingale/That Patchwork Place that features 18 projects all designed from Moda Precuts ranging in size from the mini charm, charm pack, layer cake, jelly roll, fat eighths and fat quarter.

The projects throughout A Cut Above show a variety of style and taste from the clean, fresh current designs for the younger and modern quilter, to the classic and timeless designs for the more traditional quilter.

As an unexpected surprise to me but an added bonus to you, several projects had enough fabric leftovers that bonus projects were created.

There’s one design, “Autumn’s Glow” that serves as the foundation for all the designs in A Cut Above. All the techniques (half square triangle, flying geese and square in a square) used in Autumn’s Glow are ALL the techniques used in the designs throughout A Cut Above.

For a closer look at the projects in A Cut Above, watch this YouTube video of the A Cut Above Schoolhouse Presentation from Fall Quilt Market 2013. We think you will be inspired to start making projects from the book, which will be 20% off all month long!

In celebration with Kimberly and the Fat Quarter Shop on the release of A Cut Above, we are having a big giveaway! 3. I love this book. I wouldn't have thought I could make some of these quilts, but after seeing how easy they are, I NEED this book. I love pre-cuts. //////////////I love this book.

  4. I love all the quilts on the cover of this book! Red is my favorite color and I would make all of these cute projects.

  7. I already purchased this book, but this video really made me realize how much more I have. When I purchased A Cut Above, I knew I liked 3 or 4 of the bigger quilts, but now I like everything. Maybe not the pillows–just because I am not a pillow person. I did like the big pincushion idea, though.

  8. What a great idea to showcase both modern and traditional quilts in the same book! I actually like both and appreciate seeing both styles. I see several projects I'd like to make.

  9. Loved the video of her presentation of projects this book offers! I would love to have one of these books! I am all about recycling the leftovers from precuts!

  10. What an inspiration! Gerri has thought it through so well – great projects, ranging in ability and versatility. I also love the thrift of it all. A book with a strategy – so sensible and saleable. Simply brilliant! I must get my hands on this book.

  29. All of the quilts from this book make my heart sign and dance, and I am a very tired teacher, so that is saying something. I do not know how I could pick one quilt to start with. I WANT TO MAKE THEM ALL!!!! Love this book. You would make my year if you picked me.

  36. I have so enjoyed making quilts from other Planted Seed quilt patterns. It's easy to adapt the patterns to incorporate a "scrappy" motif.
