Who we are … Sweetwater is a family owned business. My name is Lisa and I work with my sister Susan and mom Karla. One of the most popular questions we are asked is, “What exactly do you do?”
The answer: We do a lot of things and sell a lot of diverse products. But basically we design. From fabric to birth announcements to logo creation to scrapbook paper, we have a great time designing different products for various industries.
One of our favorite projects was designing our new fabric collection for Moda. Authentic was definitely inspired by our scrapbook designs. We love words in design and decorating, and thought it would be perfect on fabric. We also love black and white and my favorite color is lime green. We think the combination of these colors is very striking, yet very simple and modern.
One of the most exciting things about Authentic is that some of the pieces come in a canvas weight fabric that is great for home decorating and bags. We have used the canvas to recover chairs and benches and also in my personal favorite new pattern, Market Tote.
In addition to the fabric, we have also designed a printable collection of cards and stationery from the Authentic prints. They are available to print directly from your computer and are available on our Etsy site. These cards can give you a little taste of what the fabric is like.
My favorite design in the collection is the newsprint. It is incredibly versatile, not only within the Authentic collection itself, but with other fabric. We have experimented using this print with brighter colors like red, green and orange and the result is fantastic. Actually, all the prints in the collection are so versatile that they integrate with other collections seamlessly.
We are so honored to be able to design for Moda. It is a great company, and we have so much fun working with them. Even though Authentic was just released, our next collection is already in the production phase. I don’t know if we can let any secrets out – but the new collection, called Make Life, is colorful and fun. I can’t wait to see the first samples, but I am having a hard time deciding which collection I like best – Authentic or this new one. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.
