Hi! I’m Jill Finley of Jillily Studio. I want to tell you a little bit about one of my quilting notions, APPLI-GLUE. A few years ago I was working away at some applique, and decided that it sure would be nice if I could baste my pieces onto my background with a glue that would be safe for the fabrics. So I developed my basting glue.
I had some pretty strict requirements for this new glue. Most importantly, I wanted it to be ARCHIVAL, meaning that it is safe to leave in my quilts because it is acid free (pH neutral). I wanted it to be water soluble, just in case I need to wash it out! I need a teeny, tiny, dropper tip so that I can be very precise with my application of glue. It should not dry stiff and hard. I needed the tip to NOT CLOG!! (this had been a problem for me before) I wanted an easy way to clean out the tip when I am done using it. And for sure, it should be very sticky—to hold all those applique pieces in place until I finally get around to stitching!
It is especially nice when you are working on a complicated design to hold all the pieces down at once—no more adding just one piece at a time. This is really handy when you are going to stitch by machine. Your pieces will stay firmly in place when you are turning and twisting your project under the needle.
When you prep all your pieces, and glue them down with Jillily Studio APPLI-GLUE, you can see the whole design at once, and your project becomes portable! Even if you are going to a ball game — all you need is your needle and thread, and you are set to stitch. (Between innings, of course—you don’t want to miss any of the action!)
Remember, Appli-Glue is 20% off all month long at Fat Quarter Shop! Happy quilting!

Love this blog entry. Applique is a favorite.
I just want to share news about Pat Sloan's new fabric line – called "One for you, One for Me'… "it's what I said to my mom when I gave her flowers (or weeds) from the yard" in cottons and Batics. crystalbluern at onlineok dot com
This applique glue is great to know about, thank you very much for sharing this info!

Hi Jill – We'll definitely be giving this a try. How about using it on the raw edges of applique pieces that will be finished with satin or buttonhole stitch? Sounds like something we really need in my studio 🙂 Patrick
