Announcing the Celebrating 250 Years of America Quilt Along

This year is the United States’ 250th Birthday, and we are sew ready to celebrate! Some of you (our Facebook members, specifically) have been asking for ideas of what to sew to celebrate, and today, we get to officially announce the Celebrating 250 Years of America Quilt Along. Starting in February 2026, join us for this year-long quilt along full of scrappy fun, summertime style, and a sampling of traditional quilt blocks.

Celebrate this milestone all year long with us as we piece a patriotic version of the Peppermint Rose Quilt from the Celebrate with Quilts book by Lissa Alexander and Susan Ache. The Peppermint Rose Quilt finishes at 66.5″ x 66.5″ and is a great pattern for confident beginners and quilters who love exploring a large library of traditional quilt blocks. All the supplies are listed on the Celebrating 250 Years of America Supplies Page and below.

For this patriotic project, we’re using the Rosie collection by Fig Tree & Co. for Moda Fabrics. Inspired by Rosie the Riveter and all the women in our lives who rolled up their sleeves and did what had to be done, these shades of cherry pie red, denim blue, and whipped cream white are the perfect colors for this summertime celebration!

    1. I was wondering what a light gray background would look like & keeping the whites in the actual stars being white. But I think to much white too,

  1. Doesn’t look very “250th Americana” to me. Love the Fig Tree fabrics, but not what I want to commemorate.

  2. I can’t wait to sew this quilt. I actually had it tagged as one I wanted to do some day…no better time than now to celebrate our 250th anniversary! I will be sewing with “American Gatherings II” (fat eight) and “Primitive Gatherings” (layer cake) along with some patriotic stash of Lisa Bongean’s misc collections. SO excited!

  3. It would be nice if it is more patriotic looking and maybe said Happy 250th America or some fabric using some wording commemorating this special year. I agree, to much white, but that can be changed. However I am going to find some quilt fabric that will commemorate this year. It only comes once!

  4. Hi FQS, Have you considered something similar for a cross stitch project? That would be awesome. Thank you.

  5. At age 95 my mom decided she would quilt the 50:states star blocks in celebration of our 250th anniversary. She completed 36 of them before she passed away at age 99 last August. The completed ones are beautiful.

  6. As others have said, too much white and it doesn’t look patriotic. Something with our flag on it would be better and Happy 250th Birthday America like someone else mentioned.

  7. Maybe change the border to a blue instead of the ivory. Could applique America 250 years 2026 on the border and add flags around border from the 13 stars to present,

  8. Sad that Minick and Simpson retired. Loved their fabric line and I stocked up while I could. Yes, I also agree, too much white in this quilt.

  9. Thank you Fat Quarter Shop! This is going to be fun! I will probably change up the pattern a little. I plan to sew with American Gatherings 2 bundle from my stash, and maybe a dove grey background.

  10. I love the idea to celebrate 250 yrs but this quilt doesn’t do it.
Too much white and doesn’t look patriotic
    Thank you

  11. I love Fig Tree and I can’t wait for Rosie to come out but as many have mentioned “Not patriotic” but I do know that all the white that everyone has mentioned, is not white at all. Depending on what collection is chosen, they will all have different setting fabrics. What is shown is just the main blocks that will be made. It was shown in different collections and they all had different looks.

  12. I was excited about a quilt along but will be passing on this one. Does not look patriotic at all. I agree with the other comments of too much white / background. I do love the Rosie fabric. I am going to do Fig Tree’s flag quilt with their Rosie fabric. Also going to do something with Wecker-Fresch’s panel with Betsy Ross sewing. These are more of the patriotic feel to them.

  13. Would love to see this in Combat Quilters Collection from Northcott. Always looking for quilt material for QOV, patterns also.

  14. I am a Fig Tree girl and use mostly Fig Tree fabric in all of the quilts I make. I’m so excited for Rosie to get into my hands. I agree that this quilt looks like too much white. However, if you thumb through the book, the picture of this quilt has low volume fabrics everywhere there is white in this coloring. I’m thinking that a variety of very low volume fabrics that won’t overpower the individual blocks would be beautiful along with either the red or navy Rosie cloud pattern as the outer border! I think that would make it more “Fig Tree” feeling while still being a red, white, and blue quilt.

  15. I’m a country girl and nothing says Americana more to me than the classic red, white, and blue mixed with the earth tones of greens and tans!! Love this pattern and the work that was put into designing it. Gonna spice up the white with some white-on-white fabric and hopefully find some starbursts!
