This year is the United States’ 250th Birthday, and we are sew ready to celebrate! Some of you (our Facebook members, specifically) have been asking for ideas of what to sew to celebrate, and today, we get to officially announce the Celebrating 250 Years of America Quilt Along. Starting in February 2026, join us for this year-long quilt along full of scrappy fun, summertime style, and a sampling of traditional quilt blocks.

Celebrate this milestone all year long with us as we piece a patriotic version of the Peppermint Rose Quilt from the Celebrate with Quilts book by Lissa Alexander and Susan Ache. The Peppermint Rose Quilt finishes at 66.5″ x 66.5″ and is a great pattern for confident beginners and quilters who love exploring a large library of traditional quilt blocks. All the supplies are listed on the Celebrating 250 Years of America Supplies Page and below.

Absolutely love the fat quarter bundle, not so crazy about the quilt. Way too much white. Thank you though.
I was sitting here thinking “Gee I wonder what a deep rich Navy background would look like”
🙂
I was wondering what a light gray background would look like & keeping the whites in the actual stars being white. But I think to much white too,
Doesn’t look very “250th Americana” to me. Love the Fig Tree fabrics, but not what I want to commemorate.
I can’t wait to sew this quilt. I actually had it tagged as one I wanted to do some day…no better time than now to celebrate our 250th anniversary! I will be sewing with “American Gatherings II” (fat eight) and “Primitive Gatherings” (layer cake) along with some patriotic stash of Lisa Bongean’s misc collections. SO excited!
It would be nice if it is more patriotic looking and maybe said Happy 250th America or some fabric using some wording commemorating this special year. I agree, to much white, but that can be changed. However I am going to find some quilt fabric that will commemorate this year. It only comes once!
Hi FQS, Have you considered something similar for a cross stitch project? That would be awesome. Thank you.
I love this idea!
At age 95 my mom decided she would quilt the 50:states star blocks in celebration of our 250th anniversary. She completed 36 of them before she passed away at age 99 last August. The completed ones are beautiful.
As others have said, too much white and it doesn’t look patriotic. Something with our flag on it would be better and Happy 250th Birthday America like someone else mentioned.
