5 Quilts to Sew for Flag Day

Did you know June 14 is National Flag Day here in the United States? It’s the day chosen to commemorate when our young government approved the first design for its first national flag. Since that day way back in 1777, the American flag has become an iconic symbol of freedom around the world.

American flag designs can be found everywhere, and quilts are no exception! We’ve gathered several flag quilts for you to enjoy, and by starting these today you can have one finished in time for the 4th of July! Scroll on to see some red, white and blue designs.

1. 4th of July Quilt as You Go Mini Quilt

Just like its country, this quilt is young, scrappy, and hungry! This mini quilt is made using the Quilt as You Go technique where piecing and assembling the quilt sandwich are done at the same time. If you’re new to this technique, you can try it out with this simple mini quilt.

Watch the video to see how to put this project together, and pick up the 4th of July Quilt As You Go Mini Quilt Kit to make one just like ours.

2. Stars and Stripes Forever

This quilt by Fig Tree & Co. paints a patriotic picture with deep blues and vibrant reds. A variety of stars adorn each flag. Sew this project and display it in any room of your home with pride. Stars and Stripes Forever finishes at 58″ x 71″.

5. Old Glory

This American Flag design is available as a free downloadable pattern. The finished size is 39.5″ x 63.5″, and we think it would be cute hanging on a porch! The pattern uses an ingenious design of cutting out fabric printed with stars so you don’t have to piece them.
