We are bursting at the seams with excitement! Keeping this secret under wraps is no easy task, but our 2022 Designer Mystery Block of the Month will be worth the wait! This will be Fat Quarter Shop’s 15th Annual Designer Mystery Quilt, and it’s sure to be a surprise. This quilt weaves together comfort and inspiration, with 12 sampler blocks made in Nantucket Summer by Camille Roskelley for Moda Fabrics for a palette that’s sure to soothe your soul.
This year’s quilt is Full Size, finishing at 80.5” square. The Designer Mystery Block of the Month runs from June 2022 through May 2023. Members will receive a block pattern and fabric each month (and don’t worry, there’s a little extra included to allow for starching or miscuts).
Every year, the Designer Mystery quilt is made up of 12 blocks designed by 12 Moda designers, and each block measures 12″ x 12″. The great thing about the quilt is that it is perfect for quilters of all levels, so everyone is invited!
What You’ll Need
The 2022 Designer Mystery Quilt is exclusive to the Fat Quarter Shop and you won’t find it anywhere else! To complete your quilt, pick up the Designer Mystery Finishing Kit, which comes with some bonus goodies, including a beautiful coordinating keepsake box perfect for holding your blocks and patterns. It includes the pattern and fabric for the sashing, borders, and binding to finish the 80.5″ square quilt. Reserve the Designer Mystery Backing Set to receive 7.625 yards of this lovely blue floral print and a bonus quilt label available ONLY with the purchase of this backing set. Both the Finishing Kit and Backing Set will ship with your first shipment of the Block of the Month.
Finishing Your Quilt
After sewing up your blocks that comprise the main part of the quilt, you will need additional fabric to complete your quilt. These fabrics are in the Finishing Kit, but if you don’t have one, you may use the Fabric Requirements below to know which fabrics from the Nantucket Summer collection you’ll need to make your quilt like the pattern.
Block Fabric Requirements
We’re providing the fabric requirements for the blocks for those who didn’t get a spot in the Block of the Month club. The block patterns will be released in July of 2023.
Optional Notions
If you would like some extra help making perfect half-square triangles without the fuss, we suggest using Triangles on a Roll Triangle Paper in H150, H200 and H300. These are completely optional to use.

Is there a way that I could make this a king size quilt ??

You would need to add borders around the edge between 9 and 14″ wide, or you could add an additional row of blocks on both sides to make it larger.

Please look at the response from Kate that is on your other post. I think her answer about borders and extra blocks is spot on – you would need to buy extra fabric in addition to the monthly kits to make it bigger.
What is included with the Block of the Month? Is it just the fabric, but you have to purchase the finishing kit to get the patterns?

Each month you receive the pattern and fabric to make the block for that month. You will need to purchase SEPARATELY the FINISHING and BACKING sets if you want the complete quilt, as shown by FQS. I’m sure if you still have questions, just give customer service a call…they’re all amazing and will be happy to answer any questions you might have.
This is my third one. You receive the pattern and a generous amount of fabric to complete the block. In past years, you could purchase just the finishing pattern. But I found that purchasing the finishing kit is so much easier than trying to find the fabric to complete the top.
Yes. I participated in a few Mystery Block of the Months. My absolute favorite (so far) was Edyta Sitar. I think it was 2016. Love my blues.
I am participating in the 2021 Designer Mystery Block of the Month and I’m really enjoying it. A block pattern and fabric arrive once a month and I’m always anxiously waiting for it. A few of the blocks have tested my skill level, but having the Facebook group for support and piecing tips has saved the day. I love this BOM so much, I signed up for 2022! I encourage everyone to join. You won’t regret it.

I’m doing the 2021 DM BOM and am LOVING it. A couple of the blocks have tested me, but have taught me to cut carefully and sew precisely (normally user error)! I can’t wait for the 2022 DM quilt. I would highly recommend anyone to do it…you’ll love it. This fabric collection is absolutely beautiful.
Each month, you receive the fabric and pattern and YES…FQS is great at making sure you have plenty of fabric to starch and make any cutting/sewing mistakes. That’s one of the things I love the most about FQS BOM’s, there’s always plenty of fabric.
I can’t wait…this is going to make a BEAUTIFUL quilt!!!
QUESTION…Is there a way to make it larger…queen or king size???
It needs about 18-26 additional inches on the sides to make it King size. A few wide borders or an extra row of blocks would do.

I wasn’t going to sign up for this year’s Designer Mystery until your newsletter for Feb. 14. I loved the hint of the finishing kit block and so I made my reservations. This will be my third Designer Mystery quilt although I have purchased patterns for previous Designer Mystery quilts and have used one or two of those blocks. Keep up the fantastic work and all those “too tempting” projects.

Absolutely gorgeous quilt, but when you add the monthly quilt block, the finishing kit and backing this quilt is $462.20. A bit too pricey for me..
