Who Wants to Make a Cake for Quilty Fun’s 1st Birthday?

Hi everyone! Put your party hats on and welcome to Quilty Fun‘s 1st birthday party, hosted by Lori of Bee in My Bonnet and Fat Quarter Shop! We can’t believe that it’s already been a year since we launched our first book with Lori. We’ve had so much fun with her over the past year with the Quilty Fun Sew-Along with creating her sampler quilt. Here is Kimberly’s finished quilt, don’t you love it?

If you’re new to the Quilty Fun family, check out our behind the scenes video where you can see some sneak peeks of the quilts in the book and get to know Lori’s world.

Lori is the queen of all things scrappy and novelty, so what better way to celebrate Quilty Fun‘s birthday than with a birthday cake block by Lori. This block is so cute and festive and super fun to make.

Kimberly also created her own version of the birthday block. Chocolate cake anyone?

We’ve invited a few guest bloggers to join the party by recreating her birthday cake block. Check out their blogs to see their creations.

Jennie and Clara of Clover & Violet
Nanette of Freda’s Hive
Jessie of Messe Jesse
Kristyne of Pretty By Hand

If you want to join the party, download the cutting instructions to start your birthday cake block!

  1. Hi Lori! Hi Kimberly! Thanks for a wonderful year of sewing and following the two of you. Lori, I peek at Instagram and Bee in my Bonnet and Kimberly, I follow the Jolly Jabber daily. I have the books you two published this year and have learned soooo much. Thank you both. What a great team.

  2. I love looking at everyone's quilty birthday cakes, it's a lot of fun! The sneak peek looks incredible, I can hardly wait for Lori's new book!!!!

  3. I LOVE the Quilty Fun Book and have made so many quilts/blocks/table toppers and more from it. Sometimes I just sit with it and as I turn the pages I dream of what I would like to make next!

  6. OMG!!! Loving these cakes. Ive been having a look at them all. So inspiring. I want to make some. Love Greg's whole quilt. This mini block would make a cute birthday card for that special friend!!

  7. I love the Birthday Block. I think I need to make one for my family to display on their Birthdays! Fun stuff!
I made the Quilty Fun quilt too. I still need to get it quilted. It was fun to meet Lori and show it to her in Midway, Utah this Summer.

  8. LOVE it!! Thanks so much for the Birthday Cake pattern. I love Lori Holts patterns and style! Thank you Kimberly for hosting this.

  9. I bought copies of the book last year to give as gifts to quilting friends and family. My daughter is working on scrappy butterflies for my granddaughter and having a lot of fun choosing and mixing fabrics.
I am excited to get the pattern for the birthday cake block. I can envision a lot of uses for this block.

  10. I can't wait to make one of these for my BIG birthday in just a few weeks! I especially love the chocolate frosting version! Love the fabrics in all the cake quilts.
    Love the book, too.
    Happy Birthday to Quilty Fun!
